{"id":19302,"date":"2022-04-16T18:39:08","date_gmt":"2022-04-16T18:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=19302"},"modified":"2022-04-16T18:39:08","modified_gmt":"2022-04-16T18:39:08","slug":"vandalism-of-transformers-worries-phed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/16\/vandalism-of-transformers-worries-phed\/","title":{"rendered":"Vandalism of transformers worries PHED"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr Iboro Essienubom, Regional Product Manager, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), says 13 transformers were vandalised in one week at Eket and two other areas of Akwa Ibom.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Essienubom disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Eket on Saturday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He listed the other areas as Etinan and Ikot Abasi.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThe problem we are having in Eket recently is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/10\/vandalism-at-odukpani-transmission-tower-responsible-for-grid-collapse-fg\/\">vandalism<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/08\/uniosun-teaching-hospital-condemns-attack-on-staff-by-hoodlums\/\">Hoodlums<\/a> are vandalising our transformers, cutting cables, draining oil, cutting earth wires,\u201d Essienubom said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He\u00a0 alleged that the vanadalism was being done through a syndicate, and appealed to communities to protect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/24\/lagos-govt-restates-commitment-to-increase-public-awareness-about-tuberculosis\/\">public<\/a> facilities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cI just came back from Etinan yesterday, four transformers were vandalised; in Ikot Abasi, two transformers were vandalised, and in Eket, seven <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/15\/power-supply-aedc-seeks-out-of-court-settlement-in-n200m-suit\/\">transformers<\/a> were vandalised, in one week.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIt is a very big challenge to us, we are calling on our customers to organise vigilante to watch over transformers in their communities,\u201d Essienubom said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that PHED was partnering with communities to ensure that its installations were secure to avoid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/nbet-moves-to-secure-additional-40mw-of-electricity-official\/\">blackout<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Essienubom\u00a0 also noted that vandalism of transformers meant loss of revenue to the company.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The regional product manager said that Meter Access Provider (MAP) had arrived at Eket and would be metered to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/10\/system-collapse-ekedc-apologies-to-customers-in-lagos-ogun-over-irregular-power-supply-april-9-2022-by-rasak-raji\/\">customers<\/a> who earlier paid to the vendor.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cWe have a backlog of over 1000.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">On free prepaid meters, he said that 71,000 were given by the company but no one benefitted from Eket <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/12\/lg-polls-apc-wins-in-31-of-34-lgas-in-katsina-ktsiec\/\">LGA<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He promising that the customers in Eket would benefit from the next batch.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Iboro Essienubom, Regional Product Manager, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), says 13 transformers were vandalised in one week at Eket and two other areas of Akwa Ibom.
