Mrs Sandra Udeike, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Headquarters chapel, has urged government at all levels to provide adequate security to schools to ensure student safety.<\/p>\n

Udeike made the call in her welcome address to the union’s 2021 Press Week in the chapel on Friday in Abuja.<\/p>\n

COVID-19<\/a>, she claimed, had a massive negative impact.<\/p>\n

She did, however, express concern that insecurity had reached alarming proportions, particularly because “our innocent children are now being kidnapped from schools.”<\/p>\n

Udeike stated that whatever affected children also affected their parents, and that when children are kidnapped, parents have sleepless nights.<\/p>\n

“Previously, we would hear about rich and wealthy people in society being kidnapped and ransom demanded by the kidnapper, but this is no longer the case.”<\/p>\n

“Our innocent children are being kidnapped and held captive for an extended period of time.” The psychological trauma of being kidnapped is sufficient to kill the victim. “Schoolchildren require protection.”<\/p>\n

As a result, I’d like to take this opportunity to urge government officials at all levels to prioritize school safety. “I implore them to provide adequate security in all of the country’s schools.”<\/p>\n

I also advise parents to do their homework before selecting schools for their children.<\/p>\n

“The focus of our last year’s Press Week was also on insecurity, emphasizing the need for the threat to be addressed urgently,” she explained.<\/p>\n

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the event drew other unions and stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The presentation of awards of excellence to Emmanuel Ogbeche, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Mr Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue, and many others was one of the highlights of the event.<\/p>\n

“Let me reemphasize that these awards are not from FRCN Management to the staff, but from NUJ leadership to its members,” Udeike said. “As a result, beneficiaries must be active members.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
