{"id":21330,"date":"2022-04-26T09:26:02","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T09:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=21330"},"modified":"2022-04-26T09:26:02","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T09:26:02","slug":"group-offers-free-malaria-treatment-to-idps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/26\/group-offers-free-malaria-treatment-to-idps\/","title":{"rendered":"Group offers free malaria treatment to IDPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As Nigeria marks World Malaria Day, an NGO, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), has offered free malaria tests and treatment for 50<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/11\/29\/apc-and-pdp-in-borno-are-feuding-over-the-resettlement-of-internally-displaced-persons-idps\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The group also donated treated mosquitoes nets to the beneficiaries and checked their blood pressure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">YALI\u2019s Coordinator in Plateau, Mrs. Nerat Gyang, who led the team that offered the service on Monday, said that the gesture was part of activities slated to commemorate the 2022<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/22\/1m-children-in-3-african-countries-have-received-malaria-vaccine-who\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> World Malaria\u00a0 Day<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gyang said that YALI had been an inspiration to a lot of young people in its efforts to provide leadership and create social impact, particularly for less privileged persons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201dToday, we have conducted free malaria tests and provided treatment for 50 displaced persons in this community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201dWe have also distributed treated mosquitoes nets to them as a way of preventing the spread of malaria. These people were sacked by the recent attacks on their community and they are living in terrible conditions.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201dThey are exposed to mosquito bites and prone to having malaria and this is why we decided to carry out this little intervention,\u201d she said<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She explained that the gesture was made possible through the support of individuals and organizations in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The coordinator called on the government to come to the aid of the crisis victims so as to alleviate their current sufferings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She also called on the government to ensure regular tests and treatments for displaced persons scattered throughout the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that YALI was initiated by Barrack Obama, former President of the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The programme focuses on building a new narrative for Africa in entrepreneurship, public service and civil populace engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Nigeria marks World Malaria Day, an NGO, Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), has offered free malaria tests and treatment for 50 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Miango in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau.
