{"id":21875,"date":"2022-04-28T21:17:49","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T21:17:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=21875"},"modified":"2022-04-28T21:17:49","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T21:17:49","slug":"casual-workers-ground-activities-at-warri-refinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/28\/casual-workers-ground-activities-at-warri-refinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Casual workers ground activities at Warri Refinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of casual workers at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) grounded activities at the facility on Thursday over the company\u2019s failure to regularise their appointments.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters, some of whom had served the company for about 28 years, demanded the immediate regularisation of their appointments from casual to regular employees.<\/p>\n<p>They also demanded salary increments,\u00a0payment of all outstanding allowances, better working conditions and improved welfare, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Some of them demanded outright payoffs, alleging that the management of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/08\/nnpc-seeks-special-courts-for-prosecution-of-oil-thieves\/\">NNPC<\/a>, the supervisory agency, had refused to yield to their demand for regularisation over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Some held tree branches while others wielded placards with different inscriptions expressing their misgivings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo conversion, no quick fix,\u2019\u2019 \u201c15 years to 27 years of slavery must stop,\u2019\u2019 \u201cNNPC, stop technical lies,\u2019\u2019 \u201cWarri, Kaduna, Port Harcourt Refineries must work,\u2019\u2019 \u201cIncrease our salary,\u2019\u2019 some of the inscriptions read.<\/p>\n<p>Calling on the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, to address the issue, the protesters said that activities would not resume in the company until their demands were met.<\/p>\n<p>One of the protesters said, \u201cthe workers want to leave the job and enjoy the management to pay them off since their services are no longer needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the ground that the management still wants our services and want to keep us, we demand our conversion from causal staff to permanent staff,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The aggrieved workers protested over the same issue in 2019 and 2020 without a resolution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of casual workers at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) grounded activities at the facility on Thursday over the company\u2019s failure to regularise their appointments.
