An All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship aspirant in Abia, Prof. Greg Ibe, says he will implement a comprehensive civil service reform, if elected.<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n
\n

This is contained in his goodwill message to Abia workers during Monday\u2019s Workers<\/a>\u2019 Day celebration and made available to the our correspondent Umuo inahia.<\/p>\n

Ibe stated that \u201cthe reform will be geared towards making the sector proactive, efficient and effective\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also said the reform would help to enhance the conditions of service in the state.<\/p>\n

He further stated that it would help to bring about improved welfare packages for workers.<\/p>\n

Ibe lauded \u201cthe enterprising spirit of Abia workers\u201d, describing the workers as \u201cresilient, focused and committed\u201d.<\/p>\n

He promised to partner the organised private sector \u201cin formulating strategic policies that will help in fashioning out more job opportunities for Abia<\/a> youths\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to him, the essence is to curb the current high rate of unemployment in the state.<\/p>\n

Ibe stated that the resilience of the workers in the face of the \u201cprevailing harsh economic environment\u201d, contributed immensely to stabilising the polity.<\/p>\n

He promised to utilise his experience and exposure as lead consultant to the federal civil service during former President Olusegun Obasanjo\u2019s administration to restore the dignity of labour among the workers.<\/p>\n

He also gave assurance that he would make the public service engaging, productive and rewarding.<\/p>\n

The governorship hopeful stated that he would adopt the \u201cdemand-led approach\u201d in tackling the state\u2019s alarming unemployment rate of 50.07 per cent.<\/p>\n

He further promised to leverage his professional background as professor of entrepreneurial science \u201cto identify the skills needs of employers in both public and private sectors, in order to train and empower the youths to sufficiently fill the gaps.<\/p>\n

Ibe commended the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress for honouring him with an award, which he dedicated to Abia pensiomers.<\/p>\n

He said the gesture was to demonstrate his sympathy for the retirees, who recently protested against their 38 months unpaid arrears of pension.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure them that I feel their pain while working to deploy our reform template in resolving the pension issue permanently, if elected,\u201d Ibe added.<\/p>\n

He appealed to workers and Abia residents in general to obtain their permanent voter cards to enable them to vote for persons \u201cwith verifiable track record of competence, love and passion for the wellbeing of the citizenry\u201d.<\/p>\n
