{"id":2280,"date":"2021-12-05T11:00:31","date_gmt":"2021-12-05T11:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=2280"},"modified":"2021-12-05T11:00:31","modified_gmt":"2021-12-05T11:00:31","slug":"yuletide-fg-starts-massive-rehabilitation-of-lagos-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/05\/yuletide-fg-starts-massive-rehabilitation-of-lagos-roads\/","title":{"rendered":"Yuletide: FG starts massive rehabilitation of Lagos roads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, said on Sunday that massive road rehabilitation in the state had begun ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/11\/24\/yuletide-exercise-patience-on-highways-frsc-cautions-motorists\/\">Yuletide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the action was in accordance with Federal Government directives.<\/p>\n<p>Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the ongoing rehabilitation would include all major roads in order to ensure a smooth ride during the festive season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because we anticipate a high volume of traffic, particularly around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/01\/covid-19-vaccine-civil-servants-troop-out-to-get-vaccinated-after-being-barred-from-accessing-office\/\">Christmas<\/a> and New Year&#8217;s, the honorable minister has directed that palliative work be performed on all major roads with potholes and failed sections.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Palliative work has begun and continues, particularly where contractors are on the ground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway is part of it; palliative work is being done by Messrs Julius Berger Nigeria Ltd, Ikorodu-Sagamu, Arab Contractors are working there, and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway is being done by CGC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a result, we&#8217;re working on almost all of the roads.&#8221; &#8220;All critical sections on all roads in Lagos State will be addressed,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the ongoing Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway rehabilitation and reconstruction project, he stated that the Lagos section was about 30% complete.<\/p>\n<p>Popoola stated that the project&#8217;s SUKUK funding was still active and that significant progress would be seen in 2022 &#8220;because more funding from SUKUK is expected soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He stated that work on major bridges in the state was still ongoing, emphasizing that work under the Third Mainland Bridge was moving quickly.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the ongoing rehabilitation of the Eko Bridge was approximately 65% complete.<\/p>\n<p>Several expansion joints had been changed, he said, and the ones near Apongbon Bridge were the next to be changed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Olukayode Popoola, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, said on Sunday that massive road rehabilitation in the state had begun ahead of the Yuletide.
