{"id":23276,"date":"2022-05-06T13:05:11","date_gmt":"2022-05-06T13:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=23276"},"modified":"2022-05-06T13:05:11","modified_gmt":"2022-05-06T13:05:11","slug":"okada-rider-remanded-for-alleged-robbery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/06\/okada-rider-remanded-for-alleged-robbery\/","title":{"rendered":"Okada rider remanded for alleged robbery"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">A Makurdi Magistrates\u2019 Court on Friday remanded one Philip Mpunga, a commercial\u00a0 motorcycle operator, of Old Otukpo road Makurdi, for alleged Armed robbery.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/14\/assault-magistrate-orders-housewife-to-sweep-court-premises-for-5-days\/\">Magistrate<\/a>, Miss Sonia Yaikyur, did not take the plea of the defendant for want of Jurisdiction.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">She ordered that the accused person be remanded at the Makurdi Correctional Centre while the court awaited legal advice.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Yaikyur adjourned the case to May 19 for further mention.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ewache, told the court that the case was reported at A Division police station by one Veronica Hembafan of No. 2 Suzan Odua street old G.R.A Makurdi, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/16\/board-laments-refusal-of-benue-residents-to-pay-water-bills\/\">Benue<\/a> on April 16.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Ewache said the complainant reported that she closed from her business centre at Oladam old G.R.A Makurdi and was headed home when the defendant trailed her home.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The defendant, armed with a pistol, attacked her, beat her up and robbed her of her itel phone valued\u00a0 at N25,500 and in the process she sustained injuries on her elbow.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The complainant raised alarm while her relatives and neighbours came to her rescue and apprehended the suspect.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">During police investigation, the pistol and itel phone were recovered from the Suspect,as exhibits.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The prosecutor said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/02\/17\/police-begin-investigation-into-killing-of-nasarawa-varsity-student\/\">investigation<\/a> into the matter was still in progress and asked the court for another date for mention.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said the offence contravened section 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms special provision Act of 2004.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Makurdi Magistrates\u2019 Court on Friday remanded one Philip Mpunga, a commercial\u00a0 motorcycle operator, of Old Otukpo road Makurdi, for alleged Armed robbery.
