The Police Command in Lagos State on Sunday debunked the security alert trending on the\u00a0 social media where some areas were allegedly described as black spots in the state.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

In an interview with our correspondent of Nigeria<\/a> on the issue, the spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the post did not originate\u00a0 from the command.<\/p>\n

Reports have it that a security alert about\u00a0 some areas in Lagos was trending on\u00a0 the social media, warning people to avoid such\u00a0 areas at some particular hours of the day.<\/p>\n

The police image maker, however, admitted that there were some black spots in the state, but not the ones trending on the social media.<\/p>\n

He added that the command had been raiding\u00a0 and arresting suspects in areas identified as black spots in the state<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThe post is an old alert. I saw same post while I was serving at the FCT Command,\u00a0 Abuja. There is no reason for the\u00a0 members of the public to panic over\u00a0 such a post.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the so called black spots are heavily checked. We have measures put in place to check criminals around such areas. Our men are all over.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why we carried out regular raids on some of such places. We had arrested many suspects. We screened\u00a0 them when such raids were carried out. Those who were able to identify themselves were set free.<\/p>\n

\u201d For those without any means of identification, we obtained court permits to search their houses and we had recovered arms and other dangerous weapons through such search,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hundeyin said\u00a0 that the security situation in Lagos could not be handled by security agencies alone.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0 appealed to the residents to always report any strange movements and\u00a0 gatherings on\u00a0 time to the security agencies\u00a0 so as to arrest such suspects for interrogation.<\/p>\n

He warned the residents of the state against posting wrong alerts to the public through the various media platforms they belong.<\/p>\n

He implored them to always collaborate\u00a0 withth police and other security agencies by informing them of\u00a0 the existence of suspected\u00a0 black spots in the state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
