{"id":24967,"date":"2022-05-17T15:30:49","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T15:30:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=24967"},"modified":"2022-05-17T15:30:49","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T15:30:49","slug":"corruption-trial-of-ex-president-zuma-adjourned-to-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/17\/corruption-trial-of-ex-president-zuma-adjourned-to-august\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption trial of ex-president Zuma adjourned to August"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\">The corruption trial of former South African president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/15\/court-orders-former-sa-president-zuma-back-to-jail\/\"><strong>Jacob Zuma<\/strong><\/a> has been adjourned until August.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The reason for this is that the country\u2019s highest Court of Appeal has not yet ruled on several of Zuma\u2019s appeals, the court responsible for the trial announced in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Among the appeals is an application for the dismissal of the prosecutor in charge of the trial.<\/p>\n<p>The court ruled that the trial will resume on Aug. 15, if a decision is made on the applications by Zuma\u2019s lawyers by Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>The 80-year-old Zuma did not attend Tuesday\u2019s trial, which had been postponed several times.<\/p>\n<p>Zuma is accused of corruption, money laundering and fraud in connection with an arms deal before he became president but he denied the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The former president faces up to 25 years jail term.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The corruption trial of former South African president Jacob Zuma has been adjourned until August.
