\u00a0Norwegian Air has ordered 50 Boeing 737 MAX passenger planes and secured the option to purchase a further 30 aircraft, the airline said on Monday.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

The final contract<\/a> was scheduled to be signed by the end of June.<\/p>\n

The 737 MAX aircraft were to be delivered between 2025 and 2028.<\/p>\n

During this period, Norwegian\u2019s existing aircraft leasing deals would expire.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a landmark deal that sets out a path whereby Norwegian will own a large share of its fleet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will result in lower all-in costs and increased financial robustness, enabling us to further solidify our Nordic stronghold,\u2019\u2019 board chairperson Svein Harald \u00d8ygard said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Norwegian ailine\u00a0 had long been fighting the acute threat of insolvency because of high debts and other problems that followed in the wake of the coronavirus<\/a> crisis.<\/p>\n

Following a restructuring, the low-cost airline was now focusing on routes within Europe, primarily in Scandinavia, rather than long-haul flights to destinations like the United States.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In other news, Britain\u00a0 on Monday said it would offer work visas to graduates from the world\u2019s best universities in an expansion of its post-Brexit immigration system that is designed to attract the \u201cbest and brightest\u201d workers.<\/p>\n

Since leaving the European Union<\/a>, Britain has ended the priority given to EU citizens and introduced a points-based immigration system that ranks applicants on everything from their qualifications and language skills to the type of job offered to them.<\/p>\n

However, the country has faced a tight labour market for several years compounded by Brexit and COVID-19 and companies in manufacturing, logistics and the food sector have urged the government to loosen the rules for entry-level jobs.<\/p>\n

Under the scheme, graduates with a bachelor\u2019s or master\u2019s degree from the top 50 universities abroad can apply for a two-year work visa and will be allowed to bring family members with them.<\/p>\n

Those who receive doctorates can apply for a three-year visa.<\/p>\n

Successful applicants will then be able to switch to longer-term employment visas, the government<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

Rishi Sunak, the finance minister, said it would enable Britain to grow as an international hub for innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want the businesses of tomorrow to be built here today which is why I call on students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to forge their careers here,\u201d Sunak said.<\/p>\n

Under the new scheme, applicants must have been awarded degrees no more than five years before the date of application.<\/p>\n

Eligible universities must appear in the top 50 rankings of at least two of the following: the Times Higher Education world university rankings, the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Quacquarelli Symonds world university rankings.<\/p>\n

The most recent list of eligible universities from 2021, published online by the UK government, comprises more than two dozen U.S. universities, as well as institutions in Canada, Japan, Germany, China, Singapore, France and Sweden.<\/p>\n

The government said candidates must pass a security and criminality check, and be able to speak, read, listen and write English to an intermediate level<\/p>\n
