{"id":27017,"date":"2022-05-30T19:24:43","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T19:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=27017"},"modified":"2022-05-30T19:24:43","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T19:24:43","slug":"court-jails-3-fraudsters-over-cybercrime-in-ilorin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/30\/court-jails-3-fraudsters-over-cybercrime-in-ilorin\/","title":{"rendered":"Court jails 3 fraudsters over cybercrime in Ilorin"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin has convicted three persons over offences bordering on cybercrime.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The Ilorin Zonal Command of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/21\/sensitise-people-in-the-rural-area-to-check-violent-crimes-stakeholders-urge-noa\/\">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission<\/a> (EFCC) secured the conviction on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The convicts were Pelumi Omoniyi from Ekiti State, Oluwadamilola Faloye from Akure, Ondo State, and Lukman Olanipekun from Oke-Iyin, Ekiti state.<\/p>\n<p>The defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges.<\/p>\n<p>The presiding judge, Justice Muhammed Sani, in his judgment said that the available facts and proof of evidence presented had proved the cases beyond reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p>The judge sentenced Omoniyi, Faloye and Olanipekun to one-year in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/20\/courts-sentences-middle-aged-man-to-5-years-imprisonment-for-n1-9m-fraud\/\">prison<\/a>, with option of N200,000 fine each.<\/p>\n<p>Sani ordered that all the sum of money and gadgets recovered from the proceeds of the convicts\u2019 unlawful activities be forfeited to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutors, Messrs Innocent Mbachie and Andrew Akoja, had prayed the court to consider the extra-judicial statements of the defendants and convict them as charged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin has convicted three persons over offences bordering on cybercrime.
