{"id":28096,"date":"2022-06-04T19:10:28","date_gmt":"2022-06-04T19:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=28096"},"modified":"2022-06-04T19:22:58","modified_gmt":"2022-06-04T19:22:58","slug":"fg-attributes-drop-in-electricity-generation-to-partial-shutdown-of-oben-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/04\/fg-attributes-drop-in-electricity-generation-to-partial-shutdown-of-oben-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"FG attributes drop in electricity generation to partial shutdown of Oben plant\u00a0\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\"><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Federal Government says the current drop in electricity generation is as a result of the partial shutdown of Oben Gas Plant in Edo.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mallam Isa Sanusi,\u00a0 Special Adviser, Media Affairs to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/11\/multisectoral-approach-key-to-addressing-women-empowerment-minister\/\">Minister of Power<\/a> in a statement in Abuja on Saturday said that the shutdown was to repair critical gas processing equipment.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Sanusi said that the incident unfortunately occurred at a time when other power plants and other gas sources were undergoing planned maintenance and capacity testing.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201dWe wish to notify the public that Seplat Energy Plc has mobilised equipment, material and personnel to site with a view to expediting the restoration of normal gas supply to the affected power plants.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201dWe have been assured that the repair work would be concluded this weekend and normalcy will be restored,\u201dhe said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Sanusi appealed to electricity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/06\/abuja-electricity-distribution-company-apologises-to-consumers-over-workers-strike\/\">consumers<\/a> on the current state of supply and assured them that efforts were<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">being made for a sustained improvement of electricity supply across the country<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In other news, the Lagos State Government has commenced the crushing of about 2,000 impounded motorcycles in line with its ban on motorcycle \u201cOkada\u201d operations in the<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/15\/invest-in-social-protection-to-address-poverty-unicef-appeal-to-kaduna-state-government\/\">state governmen<\/a>t banned their operation in six Local Government Areas (LGAs) and nine Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) from June I.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, made this known in a statement in Lagos.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He reiterating the government\u2019s commitment to safety and security of lives and property.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Commissioner for Information &amp; Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, while addressing newsmen at the crushing of the bikes in Ikeja, stated that the exercise showed that government was not rescinding its decision.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Lauding Lagosians for the high level of compliance observed in the six LGAs, Omotoso mentioned that so far, 21 people had been charged to court for flouting the ban, with over 2,000 bikes confiscated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He stated that provision had been made for motorcycle riders affected by the ban interested in operating the First and Last Mile buses to be integrated into the scheme.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Omotoso further disclosed that affected riders might consider enrolling at any of the 18 vocational centres across the state or access the Lagos State Employment Trust Funds to explore other fields of work.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that Okada was not a safe means of commercial transportation and did not fit into the transport policy of the state.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0The Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, said the crushed motorcycles were apprehended by the enforcement agencies from the six LGAs and nine LCDA\u2019s.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Oladeinde said government was not relenting in its effort to ensure motorcycles remained banned in the areas.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Urging Lagos residents to remain calm and patient with the government, Oladeinde assured that the ongoing implementation of the multi-modal transportation system would cater for the commuting needs of the citizenry.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He affirmed that more buses, taxis and boats had been deployed to ensure that commuters had decent alternatives to get to their destinations.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Oladeinde stressed that Lagos residents should adhere to the ban instituted and obey all the state traffic laws by extension.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Chairman Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, also declared that enforcement would be intensified by next week, sounding a note of warning to recalcitrant riders.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said riders waiting for the enforcement team to weaken its resolve on the ban were wasting their time, adding that the Lagos State Task Force would live up to its responsibility.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government says the current drop in electricity generation is as a result of the partial shutdown of Oben Gas Plant in Edo.
