{"id":29129,"date":"2022-06-10T12:31:36","date_gmt":"2022-06-10T12:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=29129"},"modified":"2022-06-10T12:31:36","modified_gmt":"2022-06-10T12:31:36","slug":"frsc-warns-commercial-motorcyclists-against-taking-laws-into-their-hands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/10\/frsc-warns-commercial-motorcyclists-against-taking-laws-into-their-hands\/","title":{"rendered":"FRSC warns commercial motorcyclists against taking laws into their hands"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\"><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has warned commercial motorcyclists to desist from taking laws into their hands whenever a crisis occurs involving their fellow riders.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Sector <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/04\/wbd-embrace-cycling-for-its-health-benefits-akeredolu-frsc-urge-nigerians\/\">Commander of FRSC<\/a>, Mr Ahmed Umar, gave the warning in an interview with our correspondent on Friday in Ota, Ogun.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Umar said the warning became necessary as it had been observed that the commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada riders, usually take laws into their hands whenever crisis erupted between them and the public.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThe law enforcement agencies, especially the police, should be allowed to do their duty by enforcing laws so as to ensure sanity whenever such crisis arises,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Sector Commander enjoined<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/31\/lagferry-deploys-more-boats-increases-daily-trips-ahead-of-proposed-ban-on-okada-riders\/\"> commercial motorcyclists<\/a> to be cautious on the highways, and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to reduce crashes.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He advised them to always use their helmets to avoid hitting their heads on the roads whenever there is a crash.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In other news, the of Enugu State Government has offered bursaries to 165 indigenes in different campuses of the Nigeria Law School.<\/p>\n<p>The I65 beneficiaries of the financial awards were identified and listed by the students themselves when they interacted with Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the disbursement, the Executive Secretary, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/31\/lagferry-deploys-more-boats-increases-daily-trips-ahead-of-proposed-ban-on-okada-riders\/\">Enugu State Scholarship Board,<\/a> Mr Uche Abonyi, stated that each of the beneficiaries has received N100,000 from the government, through his office.<\/p>\n<p>Abonyi disclosed that the governor started paying the bursary to Enugu indigenes in the Nigeria Law School in 2020 during the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the state government during the heat of COVID-19 in 2020 paid N24 million to Enugu law students to cushion the adverse effects of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Aboyi said: \u201cThis payment was made at a time most states were struggling to pay workers\u2019 salaries because of economic recession\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the students to be good ambassadors of the state wherever they find themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlways have our dear state, Enugu, in your prayers for the sustenance of peace, security and good governance entrenched by Gov. Ugwuanyi\u2019s administration,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting on behalf of the beneficiaries, the leader of the law students, Michael Kenechukwu Onah, expressed immense gratitude to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/08\/ogun-pdp-governorship-candidate-adebutu-says-reconciliation-process-in-progress\/\">governor<\/a> for his humility, benevolence and steadfastness.<\/p>\n<p>Onah reiterated the commitment of the law students towards making Enugu State proud, promising the governor that they would surely make him proud in their final examination in August, in appreciation of his kind gesture.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the bursary as \u201ca privilege and not a right\u201d, the leader of the law students, reassured Ugwuanyi of their support, prayers and solidarity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, has warned commercial motorcyclists to desist from taking laws into their hands whenever a crisis occurs involving their fellow riders.
