{"id":29221,"date":"2022-06-11T06:39:54","date_gmt":"2022-06-11T06:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=29221"},"modified":"2022-06-11T06:39:54","modified_gmt":"2022-06-11T06:39:54","slug":"were-committed-to-annuity-business-aiico-insurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/11\/were-committed-to-annuity-business-aiico-insurance\/","title":{"rendered":"We\u2019re committed to annuity business \u2013 AIICO Insurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\"><\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"> The Managing Director, AIICO Insurance Plc, Babatunde Fajemirokun, said the company was committed to providing a robust annuity service to drive the growth of the insurance industry in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/08\/president-buhari-has-governed-the-country-with-discipline-commitment-tinubu\/\">country<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fajemirokun said this at an annual training for journalists covering the insurance sector with the theme: \u2018Understanding Annuity Business,\u2019 on Friday in Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fajemirokun, represented by the Head, Strategic Marketing and Communications, AIICO,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> \u00a0<\/span>Segun Olalandu, said the underwriter was doing everything possible to deepen the annuity business and take advantage of opportunities inherent in it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said AIICO had strategically repositioned its annuity department for effectiveness and growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The managing director described the annuity business as a game-changer for everybody but noted that a lot still needed to be done to deepen the business in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe are not there yet in terms of annuity, but we will get there step by step. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Our partnership with you as journalists, especially in respect of today\u2019s training on annuity is an indication of our commitment to the growth of this business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI thank our media partners for your support and charge you to make good use of the training to enrich your knowledge on annuity and share your experiences so that when you are reporting on the subject matter, you will be able to tell the stories accurately,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In his lecture, Senior Manager, Business Development, AIICO Insurance, Victor Owotorose, noted that annuity was very important and beneficial to clients and growth of the insurance industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to Owotorose, annuity is an insurance contract that promises to pay regular income immediately or in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He said a deferred annuity had an accumulation phase, followed by a disbursement (annuitisation) phase; while an immediate annuity converted a lump sum into cash flows from day one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He explained that annuity could be bought with either a lump sum or a series of payments contributed over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAnnuities come in three main varieties \u2013 fixed, variable, and indexed each with its own level of risk and payout potential.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe income received from an annuity is typically taxed at regular income tax rates, which are usually lower unlike when calculated with long-term capital gains rates,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He noted that the goal of an annuity was to provide a steady stream of income, typically during retirement. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Managing Director, AIICO Insurance Plc, Babatunde Fajemirokun, said the company was committed to providing a robust annuity service to drive the growth of the insurance industry in the country.
