The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has urged residents of Kano State to report cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to effectively eliminate the menace.<\/p>\n
CITAD\u2019s Gender Project Officer, Zainab Umar, made the call while addressing newsmen on the sidelines of its monthly feedback on reported GBV cases, on Thursday in Kano.<\/p>\n
\u201cA major observation is that communities are still reluctant to report cases of GBV, while we continue to monitor, we can only reach a small part of the state”<\/p>\n
\u201cFor this reason, we would like to appeal to parents, relatives and others to always report cases either directly to us or to other sister organizations and government agencies\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Umar noted that the Center alone could not win the campaign against GBV unless perpetrators were brought to book.<\/p>\n
She said that silence would not protect the victims of the abuse, as the perpetrators considered their silence as a stamp of acceptability.<\/p>\n
Umar said that the Center noted with concern a drastic decline in the reported GBV cases on its portal in the past two months.<\/p>\n
\u201cCITAD has received 10 cases of rape between Oct. and Nov. 2021. Twelve cases of online harassment, four sexual blackmail, 18 sexual harassment, 14 sexual abuse and no reported case of battering or social media violence\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
According to her, the Center with support of the Ford Foundation is implementing a project on reporting GBV aimed at the elimination of the menace<\/p>\n
