{"id":31061,"date":"2022-06-21T19:12:53","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T19:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=31061"},"modified":"2022-06-21T19:12:53","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T19:12:53","slug":"over-60-of-successful-medical-treatments-depend-on-medical-laboratory-science-scientist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/21\/over-60-of-successful-medical-treatments-depend-on-medical-laboratory-science-scientist\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 60% of successful medical treatments depend on medical laboratory science \u2013 Scientist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Medical Laboratory Scientist, Mr Olumide Fadipe, on Tuesday, said over 60 per cent of successful<br \/>\nmedical treatments depend on inputs and results from medical laboratory science.<\/p>\n<p>Fadipe, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/15\/unijos-vet-hospital-inferno-huge-loss-to-veterinary-profession-association\/\"> Chairman, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria<\/a> (AMLSN), Lagos State branch, said this in an interview<br \/>\nwith our correspondent in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>He said medical laboratory science played vital role in investigations and diagnosis on health conditions to aid medical treatments.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, doctors rely on results generated from medical laboratories to arrive at treatment options.<\/p>\n<p>He added that medical laboratory science had played vital roles in combating epidemics and pandemics in Lagos State, Nigeria and the world at large.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this era of diagnostic medicine, medical laboratory scientists play a foremost role in ensuring that medical prognosis and diagnosis<br \/>\nare confirmed by empirical evidence to necessitate medical interventions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the role of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/15\/afcsc-offers-free-medical-service-distributes-food-items-to-host-community\/\">medical<\/a> laboratory scientists to provide cost-effective, precise and accurate laboratory diagnosis which gives room for<br \/>\nappropriate treatment and management of health conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 60 per cent of successfully treated patients are managed based on medical laboratory results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoctors rely on laboratory test results to make informed treatment choices. Patients\u2019 history along with physical signs and symptoms<br \/>\nare vital but most diagnoses need confirmation that only laboratory tests can provide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that during the outbreak of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/20\/use-lessons-from-covid-19-to-prevent-emerging-diseases-expert-urges-nigerians\/\"> COVID-19<\/a>, medical laboratory scientists threw their lives in the line to achieve the provision of timely, precise and accurate results.<\/p>\n<p>The laboratory scientist added that it was the efforts of medical laboratory scientists that enabled government to manage infected individuals and their contacts through treatment, isolation and quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the effective control of \u201cdeadly\u201d diseases would not have been possible if not for the involvement of medical laboratory scientists in control programme.<\/p>\n<p>Fadipe said the scientists also helped in the production of Invitro Diagnostics (IVD) and other diagnostic kits used for laboratory investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Medical Laboratory Scientist, Mr Olumide Fadipe, on Tuesday, said over 60 per cent of successful medical treatments depend on inputs and results from medical laboratory science.
