{"id":31420,"date":"2022-06-23T15:28:05","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T15:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=31420"},"modified":"2022-06-23T15:28:05","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T15:28:05","slug":"german-government-implements-alarm-level-of-gas-emergency-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/23\/german-government-implements-alarm-level-of-gas-emergency-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"German government implements \u2018alarm level\u2019 of gas emergency plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\">German Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Thursday declared the \u201calarm level\u201d of the country\u2019s gas emergency plan due to an ongoing dispute with Russia over the war in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/19\/ukraine-war-bulgaria-remains-committed-to-eu-posture-ambassador\/\"><strong>Ukraine<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Gas is now \u201ca scarce commodity in Germany,\u201d Habeck said during his announcement of the move in Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>He said though gas supplies could currently still be procured on the market and were still being stored, the situation remained serious and winter would\u00a0 come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the failures of the last decade that have now led us into these difficulties,\u201d the minister said, referring to the previous government\u2019s failure to recognise the necessity of reducing Germany\u2019s energy dependence on Russia.<\/p>\n<p>The gas emergency plan had three levels: early warning level, alarm level and emergency level.<\/p>\n<p>The alarm level meant that there was a disruption in the gas supply that had led to a significant deterioration in the supply situation.<\/p>\n<p>However, the market was still able to cope with the disruption and no state intervention was\u00a0\u00a0required.<\/p>\n<p>This second level was triggered just days after Russian state-owned company Gazprom significantly curtailed deliveries via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline in what German authorities described as an act of retaliation for Western sanctions over the war.<\/p>\n<p>Only about 40 per cent of the maximum capacity was\u00a0 still flowing through the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>Habeck had declared the early warning level at the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>The minister declined to comment on scenarios in which the emergency level would be triggered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>German Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Thursday declared the \u201calarm level\u201d of the country\u2019s gas emergency plan due to an ongoing dispute with Russia over the war in Ukraine.
