{"id":33128,"date":"2022-07-04T18:21:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T18:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=33128"},"modified":"2022-07-04T18:21:00","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T18:21:00","slug":"man-bags-2-years-imprisonment-for-stealing-house-breaking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/04\/man-bags-2-years-imprisonment-for-stealing-house-breaking\/","title":{"rendered":"Man bags 2-years imprisonment for stealing, house breaking\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/18\/mass-turnout-of-voters-heavy-security-presence-greet-ekiti-election\/\">Justice Bamidele Omotoso of an Ado- Ekiti High Court h<\/a>as sentenced one John Dashe (25) to two years imprisonment without option of fine for stealing and housebreaking.<\/p>\n<p>The convict was earlier arraigned before the court on July 7, 2021 on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and house breaking.<\/p>\n<p>According to the charge, Monday Goma, 30; John Dashe, 25, and Friday Nambol, 25, on May 9, 2021, beside Pastoral Centre, on Ikere \u2013 Ekiti Road in Ado Ekiti, conspired to steal.<\/p>\n<p>The charge alleged that the defendants stole 11 bags of rice, 43 tubers of yam, millets and garri, property of one Olaitan Musa.<\/p>\n<p>The offences according to the prosecutor, contravenes sections 516, 390 (5) and 411 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In his testimony before the court, the victim, Musa, said his foodstuff shop was burgled by unknown persons.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201csome days after, I received information from my neighbours about my burgled shop, and whereabouts of the culprits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went to report at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/21\/gender-violence-stop-proposing-out-of-court-settlement-expert-advises-security-officials\/\">Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps\u2019<\/a> office that later got them arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring their investigation, some of the goods and foodstuff carted away from the shop were recovered from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To prove his case, the prosecutor, A. O. Bayo Fati, called one witness and tendered the defendants\u2019 statements as exhibits.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant spoke through his counsel Adefolaju Ayobiolaja and called no witness.<\/p>\n<p>In his judgment, Justice Omotoso said unfortunately, Friday Nambol, who was granted bail by the court because of his poor health condition was reportedly dead.<\/p>\n<p>He said his name was struck out accordingly, while the other defendant, Monday Goma, upon his release on bail, jumped bail and all efforts to locate his whereabouts proved abortive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant, John Dashe, is hereby sentenced to a term of imprisonment of one year for the offence of stealing and for offence of house breaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/13\/russian-scientist-in-german-university-sentenced-for-spying\/\">sentenced<\/a> to one year imprisonment; sentences are without options of fine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>NAN reports that the court said both sentences shall run concurrently and take effect from Aug. 11, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The convict, Dashe, who was also granted bail, however, did not jump bail.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Bamidele Omotoso of an Ado- Ekiti High Court has sentenced one John Dashe (25) to two years imprisonment without option of fine for stealing and housebreaking.
