{"id":33288,"date":"2022-07-05T18:15:11","date_gmt":"2022-07-05T18:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=33288"},"modified":"2022-07-05T18:15:11","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T18:15:11","slug":"reps-move-against-agencies-for-failing-to-appear-before-committee-on-fuel-consumption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/05\/reps-move-against-agencies-for-failing-to-appear-before-committee-on-fuel-consumption\/","title":{"rendered":"Reps move against agencies for failing to appear before committee on fuel consumption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/05\/23\/primaries-full-list-of-gombe-pdp-state-assembly-house-of-reps-candidates\/\">The House of Representatives<\/a> on Tuesday lamented the failure by the leadership of government agencies in charge of fuel supply to respond to its invitations and read a riot act to them.<\/p>\n<p>The agencies are the NNPC Ltd., the CBN, the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) Ltd., the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Accountant- General of the Federation\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Invitation sent to the agencies was to rob minds with the ad-hoc committee of the house investigating the volume of fuel consumed in Nigeria daily.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Peter Akpatason, the Deputy Minority Leader in the house, read the riot act on behalf of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.<\/p>\n<p>He said the investigative hearing was designed to give opportunity to stakeholders to rob minds with members of the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe onus is on government agencies invited to come out and state their side of the story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no single representative from the NNPC, the PPMC and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/30\/n8bn-cbn-fraud-efcc-faults-defendants-earlier-testimony-of-never-being-indicted\/\">CBN<\/a> who pays the money; they are not here to defend their positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre they not serious with this?\u2019\u2019 he queried.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the absence of representatives from the agencies was unacceptable to parliament since they held the responsibility of managing fuel supply, but were reluctant to show accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an attempt to frustrate the effort of the committee and the parliament will not take it lightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho expects that the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the CBN, the Accountant-General\u2019s office, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the, NNPC, the PPMC will not be accountable?\u2019\u2019 he queried further.<\/p>\n<p>He added that if there was any need to sanction any organisation that failed to appear before the committee, it should be made known to the house.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was shameful that most executives of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/21\/2022-hajj-nphcda-urges-state-governments-to-take-advantage-of-available-vaccines\/\">government<\/a> agencies invited were not present, warning that any information concealed by those absent could be obtained elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>He said the hearing to ascertain and account for the volume of fuel consumed daily in the country would have provided proper perspectives to the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>He frowned at the situation where organisations and government agencies invited were not turning up for the investigative hearing.<\/p>\n<p>He stated also that huge sums of money were being spent on subsidy and Nigerians did not know how much fuel they consumed daily.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Datchung Bagos (Plateau-PDP), expressed doubts that those present at the hearing would be able to give the committee needed information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre the people present capable of giving us information on the subject matter; are they well equipped to give Nigerians answers to questions that will be asked?\u2019\u2019 he also queried.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Umana Umana (PDP-Akwa Ibom) also frowned at the absence of the agencies expected to give the committee the needed data.<\/p>\n<p>He observed that it was the true determination of fuel consumption rate that would tell what the country would pay as subsidy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to invoke what is \u2018involved\u2019 to ensure these people appear before the committee,\u2019\u2019 Umana stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Abdulkadiri Sa\u2019ad, the committee chairman, on the instruction of the speaker, immediately summoned the NNPC, PPMC, AGF, CBN, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/02\/09\/ministry-of-interior-others-make-presentations-as-buhari-presides-over-fec\/\">Ministry of Finance<\/a> among other absentee agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives on Tuesday lamented the failure by the leadership of government agencies in charge of fuel supply to respond to its invitations and read a riot act to them.
