{"id":35106,"date":"2022-07-17T21:18:45","date_gmt":"2022-07-17T21:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=35106"},"modified":"2022-07-17T21:18:45","modified_gmt":"2022-07-17T21:18:45","slug":"group-urges-more-sensitisation-on-effects-of-vote-trading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/17\/group-urges-more-sensitisation-on-effects-of-vote-trading\/","title":{"rendered":"Group urges more sensitisation on effects of vote trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), on Sunday,\u00a0 urged\u00a0 stakeholders to sensitise the citizenry on their rights to exercise their civic duty and shun vote trading.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Mrs Mufuliat Fijabi, Chief Executive Officer for Gender and Election Watch (GEW) Room of the NWTF said this in a statement on Sunday in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/04\/appeal-court-fixes-july-5-for-judgment-in-abuja-land-dispute-matter\/\">Abuja<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fijabi said the organisation was in Osun\u00a0 to observe, gather information and carry out analysis about women and men\u2019s participation in the governorship election from a gender perspective.<\/p>\n<p>She said they deployed 50 accredited observers and citizens observers across the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun to observe the governorship election.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, we noted the occurrence of voter inducement in some polling units in a veiled manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d Voters were observed to stylishly point or raise their ballot papers to party agents at polling units to show who they voted for and thereafter,\u00a0 proceeded to get their cash reward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d 25 per cent of NWTF GEW observers reported cases of veiled voter inducement and reported concealed vote trading, \u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She, therefore,\u00a0 stressed the need for stakeholders to sensitise the citizenry on their rights to exercise their civic duty and shun vote trading.<\/p>\n<p>Fijabi, also commended the turnout of the aged and enthusiasm demonstrated at the polling units.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d Many women especially the elderly turned out to vote.
