{"id":35621,"date":"2022-07-21T04:00:54","date_gmt":"2022-07-21T04:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=35621"},"modified":"2022-07-21T04:00:54","modified_gmt":"2022-07-21T04:00:54","slug":"c-river-set-to-privatise-7146-hectares-oil-palm-estates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/21\/c-river-set-to-privatise-7146-hectares-oil-palm-estates\/","title":{"rendered":"C\/River set to privatise 7,146 hectares oil palm estates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/13\/ben-ayade-increases-judicial-workers-salary-in-c-river\/\">Cross River Government<\/a> says it has started the process for the privatisation of two oil palm estates in the state with a combined size of 7,146 hectares.<\/p>\n<p>Reports have it that the process began on Wednesday in Calabar with the opening of bids for the palm estates \u2013 Boki Oil Palm Estate-Borum and Nsadop Oil Palm Estate.<\/p>\n<p>Boki oil palm with a size of 1,735 and Nsadop oil palm with a size of 5,411 are both located in Boki Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Mr John Odo, Chairman of the State\u2019s Privatisation Council, who supervised the bidding process, said that due process would be followed in privatising the two government-owned assets.<\/p>\n<p>He said the privatisation was to ensure efficiency in the running of the estates, create jobs and also improve on the internally-generated revenue of the state.<\/p>\n<p>He lauded the state governor Ben Ayade for the approval adding that past administrations \u00a0had tried privatising the estates but were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman said that the council would ensure that the same successes recorded in previous privatised government assets were replicated in the estates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the assets privatised by previous governments are doing well such as Unicem and Transcorp. We don\u2019t want ours to be an exception.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe communities where these estates are situated had in time past prevented government from privatising them, but are now calling on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/23\/german-government-implements-alarm-level-of-gas-emergency-plan\/\">government<\/a> to ensure the success of the privatisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are sure that when the privatisation comes into fruition, the communities will be the highest beneficiary in terms of employment and infrastructural development,\u201d Odo said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Patrick Odok, a representative of one of the bidding companies, promised to transform the palm estates to meet the modern day reality and the needs of the host communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very serious about our investments; we mean business; we are here to bring transformation, create jobs and change lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not bringing anything less to Cross River.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll our technical partners are aware and are also ready to take up responsibilities if we win the bid,\u201d he said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cross River Government says it has started the process for the privatisation of two oil palm estates in the state with a combined size of 7,146 hectares.
