{"id":35969,"date":"2022-07-22T20:51:57","date_gmt":"2022-07-22T20:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=35969"},"modified":"2022-07-22T20:51:57","modified_gmt":"2022-07-22T20:51:57","slug":"court-dissolves-marriage-over-domestic-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/22\/court-dissolves-marriage-over-domestic-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"Court dissolves marriage over domestic violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, on Friday, dissolved the marriage between Mabel Obiojo and her husband Samuel over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/20\/domestic-violence-entertainers-others-advocate-change-in-culture-and-tradition\/\">domestic violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Judge,\u00a0Labaran Gusau, dissolved the marriage on grounds of perpetual quarrels and domestic violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt is on record that both parties have consented to the dissolution of the marriage and also the petitioner asked for the custody of the child of the marriage and the respondent did not object to that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn view of this, the court has no other choice than to grant the petitioner\u2019s prayers for divorce and custody since her husband did not object.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe marriage is hereby dissolved and custody of the child of the marriage granted to the petitioner. The petitioner is to allow the child spend weekends and holidays with the respondent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe respondent is also ordered to pay N20,000 to the respondent for the monthly upkeep of the children of the marriage and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">also refund the dowry of N20,000 to the petitioner,\u201d Labaran said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Obiojo dragged her husband, Samuel, to court over constant beating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI am tired of this marriage, since my sister-in-law moved in with us, it has been one trouble or the other.
