{"id":36212,"date":"2022-07-25T08:33:58","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T08:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=36212"},"modified":"2022-07-25T08:33:58","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T08:33:58","slug":"new-legal-year-lawyers-advocate-for-speedy-service-delivery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/25\/new-legal-year-lawyers-advocate-for-speedy-service-delivery\/","title":{"rendered":"New Legal Year: Lawyers advocate for speedy service delivery"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\">Two Lagos-based lawyers, Mr Chibuikem Opara and Mr Chris Ayiyi, on Sunday charged the judiciary to improve on service delivery in the coming new legal year.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">According to the lawyers, it is important to take stock of the judiciary now that the courts are about to embark on annual vacation.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">The lawyers made their opinions known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews in Lagos.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">A Partner at the Justification Chambers, Ikeja, Mr Chibuikem Opara, said that service delivery had not been very smooth.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">According to him, the wheel of justice grinds very slowly in the country.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">He said that apart from political and high profile cases, the life span of an average case in Nigeria, takes a minimum of 20 years to conclude from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/01\/obey-the-rule-of-law-for-democracy-to-thrive-ex-supreme-court-justice\/\"><strong>High Court to the Supreme Court.<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">He said, \u201cMy expectation from the judiciary for the coming new legal year is that service delivery should be hastened, especially if we consider that justice delayed is justice denied.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">\u201cI also expect the judiciary to use this vacation period to clean its house and put same in order.\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">Opara, said that it was a known fact that all was not well in the judiciary.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">He said that recently there was accusations from the Supreme Court justices against the then head of the court.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">He said \u201cThough, the national assembly maybe carrying out investigations, it is the judiciary that needs to stand up to its responsibility.\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">Opara was of the view that the judiciary is seen as the hope of the common people, therefore, it should not preach integrity with stained hands.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">The Principal Partner, Ayiyi Chambers, Mr Chris Ayiyi, advised the Chief Justice of the Federation to give directives to conflicting judgement of coordinate jurisdiction, mostly the Federal High Courts.<\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yiv1116083010ymail_android_signature\">\u201cI know presentation of facts may differ and courts base their judgement on facts before them.
