An NGO, YouthHubAfrica, has organised a youth football competition in Ebonyi as part of its awareness campaign against sexual and Gender Based Violence (GBV)<\/strong> <\/a>in the state.<\/header>\n

Mr Augustine Onwe, the organisation\u2019s Field Officer, told newsmen during the final match in Abakaliki that it was organised in collaboration with the European Union (EU)-Sportlight Initiative.<\/p>\n

Onwe said that the competition was used to re-awaken the people\u2019s consiousness on violent acts against girls and women in the society.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to meet men through football and educate them on the dangers of such acts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a game majorly partaken by men as the participants have been tutored on various topics and laws which protect girls and women,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said that eight teams from the 13 local government areas of the state participated in the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Golden Boot Football Club defeated Green Revolution FC 3-1 in the final and we are happy that the intended messages were duly passed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Onwe noted that the organisation was a platform for young people in Africa involved in social change.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also engage in youth advocacy and policy orientation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Coach of Golden Boot FC,\u00a0 Godo Obinnaya, commended the organisers for the competition and pledged to practicalise all they were taught.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programme opened our eyes on the need to end violence against girls and women.<\/p>\n

Coach of Green Revolution FC also thanked the organisation for the competition, noting that it created awareness on the dangers of GBV.<\/p>\n
