{"id":39053,"date":"2022-08-13T20:47:45","date_gmt":"2022-08-13T20:47:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=39053"},"modified":"2022-08-13T20:47:45","modified_gmt":"2022-08-13T20:47:45","slug":"hilwa-seeks-35-positions-for-women-in-katsina-education-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/13\/hilwa-seeks-35-positions-for-women-in-katsina-education-system\/","title":{"rendered":"HILWA seeks 35% positions for women in Katsina education system"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"featured-image page-header-image-single grid-container grid-parent\"><\/div>\n<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\">An NGO, The High Level Women Advocate (HILWA), in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/07\/02\/pvc-inec-worries-over-low-registration-in-katsina-state\/\">Katsina State<\/a>, has called for the enactment of a law to provide 35 percent women participation in education decision-making positions.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>HILWA Chairperson, Hajiya Mariya Abdullahi,\u00a0 made the call at a two-day roundtable with members of Katsina State House of Assembly on Saturday in Kano.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was organized by the NGO in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/11\/healthcare-unicef-rates-gombe-highest-in-nigeria\/\">UN Children Fund (UNICEF)<\/a>, and funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).<\/p>\n<p>She said the meeting with the lawmakers was to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the law on compulsory access to education for all children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dAnd also to support the bill seeking for the provision of law to provide the 35 percent positions to women in the education system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe meeting will also give them the opportunity to identify roles of each stakeholder in the implementation of the law,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, HILWA had presented two bills before the assembly, including that of compulsory access to education for all children and that of 35 percent for positions for women.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullahi said that the bill on compulsory access to education had become law already, while HILWA has been making efforts to see that the second one also do so.<\/p>\n<p>Responding, the Speaker,\u00a0 Alhaji Tasi\u2019u Maigari assured that the assembly will do everything possible to see the passage of the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know there are going to be some challenges and alterations on the bill, but I am assuring you that before the end of our tenure, it is going to be a reality like the other law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe early passage of the law on compulsory access to education for all children in the state was a great development for the assembly and also HILWA,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Maigari stated that the assembly was committed to providing laws that are of benefit to the entire people of the state, especially those on education.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in his remarks, the UNICEF Chief of Kano Field Office, Rafid Aziz, said \u201dthe problem with the enactment of laws is implementation, therefore are appealing for the prompt implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe education of women is very important, therefore UNICEF is always committed to ensuring that all children go to school, especially the girl child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the participants were drawn from the state ministry of education, assembly, SUBEB, judiciary, HILWA, media, and UNICEF, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An NGO, The High Level Women Advocate (HILWA), in Katsina State, has called for the enactment of a law to provide 35 percent women participation in education decision-making positions.
