{"id":39434,"date":"2022-08-16T18:19:49","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T18:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=39434"},"modified":"2022-08-16T18:19:49","modified_gmt":"2022-08-16T18:19:49","slug":"smedan-naowa-train-50-army-officers-wives-on-entrepreneurial-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/16\/smedan-naowa-train-50-army-officers-wives-on-entrepreneurial-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"SMEDAN, NAOWA train 50 Army officers\u2019 wives on entrepreneurial skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Olawale Fasanya, the Director-General, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/16\/adopt-digital-training-to-distinguish-cyber-criminality-from-genuine-businesses-ncc-tasks-efcc\/\">Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria<\/a> (SMEDAN) has reiterated the agency\u2019s commitment to improve the lives of women through entrepreneurial skills.<\/p>\n<p>Fasanya said\u00a0 this on Tuesday in Abuja when he declared open a two-day capacity building workshop for members of Nigerian Army Officers\u2019 Wives Association (NAOWA).<\/p>\n<p>Reports have it that the workshop organised by SMEDAN in collaboration with NAOWA was on institutional support programme for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).<\/p>\n<p>He said that the training aimed at empowering 50 women to start and run sustainable businesses as well as improve business and financial management.<\/p>\n<p>According to the SMEDAN boss, it will also position them for strong resource mobilisation, application and enable them have sound business planning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will therefore, create wealth, generate employment and reduce poverty,\u2019\u2019 Fasanya said.<\/p>\n<p>While expressing delight that Nigerian women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/16\/industrialists-entrepreneurs-task-fg-on-strategies-to-tackle-rising-cost-of-items\/\">entrepreneurs<\/a> demonstrated tremendous potential for enterprise, Fasanya canvassed more support for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative that the government and ecosystem players take a more intentional approach to supporting this demographic segment for greater impact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is particularly since investing in female-led business produces ripple benefits that triggers employment generation, poverty reduction and wealth creation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith increasing growth and participation of women in entrepreneurial activities, there is an increasing need to better understand how to support them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to invest in policies and programmes that enable and boost entrepreneurial performance and sustainable growth for female-led businesses,\u2019\u2019 Fasanya said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that women were redefining entrepreneurship as a route to socio-economic empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal Government through SMEDAN is poised to ensure the realisation of this potential through capacity building programmes and strategies which would sharpen their entrepreneurial and organisational skills,\u2019\u2019 Fasanya said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the President of NAOWA, Mrs Salamatu Yahaya, said that the training demonstrated part of NAOWA\u2019s commitment to revive the NAOWA Institute of Management and Technology (NIMAT) Mambilla Barracks Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am indeed happy that the SMEDAN intervention is the first training that will be taking place in the institute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is in my quest to revive the NAOWA Institute of Management and Technology as well as scale up entrepreneurship skills for members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She urged participants to see it as an empowerment opportunity that they would leverage on to carve out a niche for themselves to become successful entrepreneurs and inspiration to others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a fact that when you empower a woman, you have empowered the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, this programme is about curbing poverty from yourself, in your family and the Nigerian Army family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is about becoming a reference point for others to gain inspiration from and to follow.
