{"id":41023,"date":"2022-08-29T11:47:21","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T11:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=41023"},"modified":"2022-08-29T11:51:23","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T11:51:23","slug":"hushpuppi-court-dismisses-fgs-request-for-abba-kyaris-extradition-to-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/29\/hushpuppi-court-dismisses-fgs-request-for-abba-kyaris-extradition-to-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Hushpuppi: Court dismisses FG\u2019s request for Abba Kyari\u2019s extradition to US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/02\/alleged-blasphemy-court-to-deliver-judgment-in-kano-clerics-breach-of-fundamental-rights-on-sept-19\/\">Federal High Court, Abuja<\/a><\/strong>, on Monday, refused to grant the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended DCP Abba Kyari to the United States (US).<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, described the extradition request as \u201can abuse of court process,\u201d on the grounds that Kyari was already standing a criminal trial before another court.<\/p>\n<p>Reports have it that the U.S. the Federal Government, through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), had filed the extradition suit, praying the court to grant the plea for Kyari to face a criminal charge levelled against him by the U.S. government.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. authorities had applied to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/21\/federal-government-inaugurates-new-exhibition-gallery-in-ibadan\/\">Nigerian government<\/a> for Kyari\u2019s extradition in relation to his alleged link with suspected international fraudster,\u00a0 Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.<\/p>\n<p>NAN also reports that the suspended DCP is also facing a criminal trial on allegations of drug deal filed against him and others by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for Central District of California, Los Angeles, had recently confirmed that\u00a0 Hushpuppi would be sentenced on Sept. 21.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, refused to grant the extradition application filed by the Federal Government for permission to extradite the suspended DCP Abba Kyari to the United States (US).
