A 62-year-old man, Charles Ejem, on Monday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates\u2019 Court,<\/a><\/strong> Lagos for allegedly selling a Honda Accord car worth N3.5 million.<\/p>\n

The defendant, who took the car under the guise of repairing it, sold it and converted the proceeds to his personal use.<\/p>\n

The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace.<\/p>\n

He pleaded not guilty to the two counts preferred against him by the police.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor<\/a>, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2012, at No 40, Mackzoni St., Isheri Oshun, Lagos.<\/p>\n

According to him, the defendant fraudulently took a Honda Accord car with registration No. TG 862 KJA for repairs but sold the car and converted the proceeds to his own use.<\/p>\n

He said that the Honda Accord car was valued at N3.5 million and belonged to one Oliver Okereke.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 168(d) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n

The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n

She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed while one of them should be a blood relative of the defendant.<\/p>\n

Ariyo also ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.<\/p>\n

She adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for mention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
