{"id":41565,"date":"2022-09-01T21:25:40","date_gmt":"2022-09-01T21:25:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=41565"},"modified":"2022-09-01T21:25:40","modified_gmt":"2022-09-01T21:25:40","slug":"unaids-reiterate-commitment-to-treat-people-living-with-hiv-aids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/09\/01\/unaids-reiterate-commitment-to-treat-people-living-with-hiv-aids\/","title":{"rendered":"UNAIDS reiterate commitment to treat people living with HIV\/AIDS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/02\/08\/fast-spreading-hiv-variant-doubles-rate-of-immune-system-decline-unaids\/\">UN Joint Action Against HIV\/AIDS (UNAIDS)<\/a> has assured of its commitment to ensuring that people living with HIV\/AIDS can live a normal life <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/03\/02\/scrap-harmful-laws-that-increase-discrimination-against-hiv-aids-patient-unaid\/\">HIV\/AIDS<\/a> through access to tests and treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Country Director, UNAIDS, Dr. Leo Zekeng, said on Wednesday in Abuja at an advocacy meeting to launch the availability of CD4 test machines and reagents at healthcare facilities in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zekeng affirmed the commitment of the UN to support the prevention and treatment of HIV\/AIDS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cNobody should be dying of HIV\/AIDS in 2022, we have all the tools, all the equipment to make sure that they can live a normal life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cUNAIDS will do everything possible to support the Network of People Living with HIV\/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) to ensure that everybody benefits from this project,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Country Director, who reiterated the commitment of the UN to achieving an HIV\/AIDS-free world, said that it would continue to save people from dying of Advanced HIV Disease (AHD).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He commended NEPWHAN the leaders for their purposeful leadership by making sure that their members are placed on treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Coordinator, NEPWHAN, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, expressed the commitment of the Network to the treatment and protection of persons living with HIV\/AIDS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ibrahim called for intensive advocacy on the need to address not only the challenges of the NEPWAN community but the inequalities they suffer in society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He said that they would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies and governments to make testing facilities and drugs available to persons living with HIV\/AIDS in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) pledged the commitment of the agency to the fight against HIV\/AIDS in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Aliyu, represented by Dr. Babayemi Olakunde, a Public Health Specialist at NACA, said the agency would not relent in providing supportive interventions to NEPWAN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is a four-month programme aimed at preventing persons living with HIV\/AIDS from dying by providing access to tests and treatment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UN Joint Action Against HIV\/AIDS (UNAIDS) has assured of its commitment to ensuring that people living with HIV\/AIDS can live a normal life HIV\/AIDS through access to tests and treatments.
