However, women have persevered and today there are more opportunities than ever before for female athletes to compete at the highest levels. Women’s sports are now being taken seriously by the mainstream media as well as\u00a0champions league picks<\/a>, and female athletes are becoming household names.<\/p>\n

There are still some barriers that need to be broken down, but women in sport are making history every day. Here are just a few of the inspiring stories of female athletes who are breaking barriers and making history.<\/p>\n

Are there differences between how men and women experience sport?<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is a lot of research that indicates there are differences between how men and women experience sport. For example, one study found that women tend to be more focused on the social aspects of sport, while men are more likely to be focused on the competitive aspects.<\/p>\n

Other research has found that women tend to enjoy sport more when they feel like they are part of a team, while men are more likely to enjoy sport when they feel like they are in control.<\/p>\n

So, while there are some differences between how men and women experience sport, it is important to remember that these differences are not always absolute. There will always be individual variation within each gender.<\/p>\n

How can we increase the participation of women and girls in sport?<\/strong><\/p>\n
