{"id":4254,"date":"2021-12-14T16:11:37","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T16:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=4254"},"modified":"2021-12-14T16:11:37","modified_gmt":"2021-12-14T16:11:37","slug":"ibrd-gives-ukraine-loan-worth-150m-to-combat-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/14\/ibrd-gives-ukraine-loan-worth-150m-to-combat-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"IBRD gives Ukraine loan worth $150m to combat Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><u>Ukraine<\/u> will get a loan of about 150 million U.S. dollars from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/11\/30\/world-bank-applauds-kogis-audited-financial-statement-for-2020\/\">International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD<\/a>) to combat COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country\u2019s finance ministry disclosed this in a statement.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the minister, the funds will partly be used to strengthen the public health system and support the urgent response to the COVID-19 pandemic by purchasing COVID-19 vaccines.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe money will also be spent on improving the logistics of COVID-19 vaccines, training medical staff and promoting vaccination, among other measures taken to contain the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWith a population of around 42 million, Ukraine has recorded more than 3.57 million COVID-19 cases and 91,602 deaths during the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">So far, some 40 per cent of Ukrainian adults have been fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In May, the IBRD allocated 90 million dollars to help Ukraine combat the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis new additional financing will help Ukraine continue strengthening its COVID-19 response and vaccination activities.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">World Bank Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe, Arup Banerji stated that Ukraine still has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Europe and as such, is paying a high economic and human price, particularly with the emergence of new virus variants.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cTherefore, scaling-up procurement and deployment of vaccines, combined with measures to detect incidence and address vaccine hesitancy, are critical.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ukraine will get a loan of about 150 million U.S. dollars from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to combat COVID-19.
