{"id":43418,"date":"2022-10-11T05:27:35","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T05:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=43418"},"modified":"2022-10-11T05:27:35","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T05:27:35","slug":"eca-restates-commitment-to-support-ethical-artificial-intelligence-innovation-for-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/10\/11\/eca-restates-commitment-to-support-ethical-artificial-intelligence-innovation-for-development\/","title":{"rendered":"ECA restates commitment to support ethical artificial intelligence, innovation for development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/30\/un-deputy-chief-calls-for-action-to-deliver-sdgs-in-africa\/\">Economic Commission for Africa<\/a><\/strong> (ECA), has restated ECA\u2019s continued support to harness ethical artificial intelligence and innovation for Africa\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>This is contained In a statement issued by the Communications Section of the ECA on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Pedro said this at the Pan-African Conference on Artificial Intelligence 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The new science museum was inaugurated during the conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>During the session, the need to continuously explore the contributions of artificial intelligence to Africa and the \u201ckind of ethics we should follow\u201d when using the technology was raised.<\/p>\n<p>Pedro highlighted the different digital technology transformation projects supported by the ECA toward harnessing the full potential of emerging technologies and sustaining economic development in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, described the science museum as a \u201cdemonstration of Ethiopia\u2019s attention to<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/25\/experts-urge-countries-to-leverage-science-for-africa-development\/\"> science and technology\u201d<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed cited Ethiopia\u2019s Digital Economy Strategy, which started implementation two years ago, as a testimony to Ethiopia\u2019s commitment to the sector.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the Artificial Intelligence Institute as one of the governmental institutions undertaking initiatives to support the country\u2019s digital transformation endeavour.<\/p>\n<p>He further praised the institute\u2019s promising potential to provide problem-solving research.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed also expressed the hope that the museum would encourage young people to think creatively and utilise the space as a \u201cbreeding ground for innovative ideas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the science museum is expected to further curate Ethiopia\u2019s rich indigenous knowledge, science, and art alongside modern technological advancements.<\/p>\n<p>UNECA is also committed to supporting the museum through bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence research, products development and services delivery.<\/p>\n<p>These would enhance and impact the health, education, agriculture, transport sectors as well as public protection and safety with artificial intelligence products and services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary for the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), has restated ECA\u2019s continued support to harness ethical artificial intelligence and innovation for Africa\u2019s development.
