{"id":43687,"date":"2022-10-12T16:25:49","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T16:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=43687"},"modified":"2022-10-12T16:25:49","modified_gmt":"2022-10-12T16:25:49","slug":"indian-govt-orders-pharma-coy-to-stop-production-after-kids-deaths-in-gambia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/10\/12\/indian-govt-orders-pharma-coy-to-stop-production-after-kids-deaths-in-gambia\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Govt orders pharma coy to stop production after kids\u2019 deaths in Gambia"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\" aria-label=\"Content\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\">India on Wednesday ordered Maiden Pharmaceutical Limited to stop manufacturing all drugs with immediate effect after the consumption of some drugs it manufactured killed many children in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/06\/30\/reps-seek-justifications-for-nigerias-1-177bn-contribution-to-ecowas\/\"><strong>Gambia<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/25\/luth-at-60-physiotherapist-tasks-health-workers-on-good-posture\/\"><strong>Health Minister<\/strong><\/a> of India\u2019s northern state of Haryana, Anil Vij said the pharmaceutical company allegedly made defective cough syrups leading to the death of more than 60 children in the Gambia.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that as many as 12 flaws were found during a joint inspection conducted by federal and state drug departments at the pharmaceutical company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA notice has been served to the pharma company directing that total production shall be stopped,\u2019\u2019 Vij said.<\/p>\n<p>The pharma company had exported a variety of cough syrups to the Gambia where the deaths of infants were reported, and subsequently, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued product alerts about those cough syrups.<\/p>\n<p>The WHO had linked four cough syrups, Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and MaGrip N Cold Syrup manufactured by the pharma company with the deaths in the Gambia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSamples of the drugs mentioned by the WHO of Sonipat\u2019s pharmaceuticals company were sent to the Central Drug Lab in Kolkata. The reports are not in yet.
