The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB)<\/strong> <\/a>says good practice in construction will curtail the menace of building collapse in the country.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n

A former president of the institute, Mr Kenneth Nduka, said this at on Sunday in Abuja, at the end of a two-day workshop organised by the Artisans and Craftsmen Qualifications Awarding Board (A&CQAB) of NIOB.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The objective of the workshop was to achieve continuous professional development for its quality assurance managers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nduka said the workshop was important as one of the expectations for practice among Quality Assurance Managers, adding that it had generated a practice outlet for builders.<\/span><\/p>\n

He, therefore, encouraged participants to be serious with the workshop since good practice would curtail poor quality delivery and building collapse in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his welcome address, Mr Christopher Belonwu, Board Chairman, NIOB, said the workshop was aimed at exposing the participants among other things to the requirements for induction into the institute.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, understanding the occupational expertise required by assessors and verifiers ensures quality and consistency of assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that recommended assessment methodology, instruments of assessment and documentation were to be used for assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n

He urged the participants to pay rapt attention to all the lectures delivered by seasoned professionals to understand the expectations of the Awarding Body for learners\u2019 induction and support and sharpen their skills in the built environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chairman of Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), Mr Samson Opaluwah, harped on the importance of National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) in getting competent workers for the construction sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the way to go for builders since the outcome of learners\u2019 assessment will impact the output of builders,\u201d he said.
\nOpaluwah said the workshop was timely since it standardised the practice of Quality Assurance Managers, Centre Heads and Trainees in the NSQ process.<\/span><\/p>\n

On his part, Mr Kunle Awobodu, also a past president of NIOB and a member of the Artisans and Craftsmen Qualifications Awarding Board encouraged participants to be up and running in carrying out their activities as quality assurance managers.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said similar workshops would be organised for NSQ training Centre Heads and External Quality Assurance Managers with a view to getting everyone onboard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs Adebolanle Araba, the past Chairman, College of Fellows, NIOB, in her closing remarks, highlighted the importance of discipline among quality assurance managers in their practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

She also appreciated Berger Paints for making their Training Centre available for the Lagos workshop. She appreciated everyone that attended the workshop, hoping that what was learnt will be put to good use.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event featured lectures, practical demonstration of assessment practice and group sessions where internal quality assurance managers and quality assurance assessors interfaced.<\/span><\/p>\n
