{"id":45044,"date":"2022-10-20T18:39:07","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T18:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=45044"},"modified":"2022-10-20T18:39:07","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T18:39:07","slug":"man-48-docked-for-alleged-n1m-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/10\/20\/man-48-docked-for-alleged-n1m-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Man, 48, docked for alleged N1m fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 48-year-old man, Ejiro Ayoro was on Wednesday arraigned before an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/04\/09\/man-37-in-court-for-allegedly-stabbing-friend\/\">Ogudu Magistrates\u2019 Court<\/a><\/strong>, Lagos, for an alleged N1 million frauds.<\/p>\n<p>Ayoro, who resides at Peace Estate, Barma, Ipaja, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.<\/p>\n<p>The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in July 2021, at Egbeda area of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Bassey said the defendant collected the sum of N1,030,000 million from the complainant, Mrs Adejoke Orelaja, under the pretext of linking her up with genuine forex business.<\/p>\n<p>He said the defendant collected the money through his First Bank account and assured Orelaja that her money would yield interest within three months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe failed to fulfill the reason for collecting the money. He converted the money to his personal use. He has been on the run since last year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the offences contravened Sections 314 and 287 of the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/09\/01\/court-remands-22-year-old-painter-for-allegedly-defiling-neighbours-daughter\/\"> Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our correspondent reports that Section 287 prescribes three-year jail term for offenders.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>Daodu said the sureties must reside within the court\u2019s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government.<\/p>\n<p>She adjourned the case untill Nov. 4 for mention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 48-year-old man, Ejiro Ayoro was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates\u2019 Court, Lagos, for an alleged N1 million frauds.
