An online music streaming platform, Spotify has released a mini documentary to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Afrobeats label, \u201cYBNL\u201d, founded by Nigerian music icon, Olamide.<\/div>\n

The Spotify\u2019s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to Okumu, to celebrate 10 years of the legendary Nigerian label, Spotify took to the streets of Lagos to document its influence.<\/p>\n

Spotify today released a mini documentary to celebrate the 10th anniversary of YBNL, the culture-shifting Afrobeats label founded by Nigerian music icon, Olamide.<\/p>\n

Over the course of a decade, YBNL has developed a reputation for taking the sounds of the street to global ears through showcasing Afrobeats stars and producing definitive hits.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Okumu noted that since 2012, Olamide had discovered, developed and exported some of Nigeria\u2019s brightest music stars through YBNL.<\/p>\n

She also said from inception to date, some of the talents signed or endorsed included Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Fireboy, Asake, Pheelz, Young Jonn, DJ Enimoney, Zlatan, Naira Marley, T.I Blaze, Ycee, Viktoh, Chinko Ekun, and many more.<\/p>\n

Okomu revealed that 10 defining moments in YBNL history that had held significance over the years was as the release of Olamide\u2019s second studio album, titled YBNL, marked the birth of his independent label.<\/p>\n

According to her, \u201cGhost Mode\u201d, a 2012 rap collaboration between Olamide and rapper Phyno was a cultural phenomenon that inspired a joint album, remembered as one of the best Afrobeats collaborations.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cLed by \u201cEleda Mi O\u201d and \u201cDurosoke\u201d, \u201cBaddest Guy Ever Liveth\u201d\u00a0cemented the label\u2019s A-list status. Pheelz, Olamide\u2019s go-to producer, produced all tracks but one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe success of \u201cSkoki Remix\u201d, supported by two titans in Davido and Olamide, rapidly elevated the status of Lil Kesh, the first of many young artistes signed to YBNL.<\/p>\n

\u201cSurrounded by signees and affiliates, Olamide made his fourth studio album, \u201cStreet OT\u201d, into a YBNL showcase, giving platform to B Banks, Viktoh, Chinko Ekun and Lil Kesh.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing a successful 2014, Olamide held\u00a0\u201cOlamide Live In Concert\u201d\u00a0at Lagos\u2019 Eko Hotel, It was a huge success and became a December staple.<\/p>\n

\u201cReleased in 2018, the YBNL Mafia family\u00a0featured songs by all the label\u2019s artistes, including the hit \u201cJealous\u201d\u00a0and a certain Fireboy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Okumu said that in 2020, Olamide announced a joint deal with the international distribution company, EMPIRE, giving YBNL artistes greater access to the global audience.<\/p>\n

She said Fireboy\u2019s \u201cPeru\u201d\u00a0was released as a freestyle and became one of the most viral Afrobeats songs of 2021 as it inspired a remix with Ed Sheeran, which had over 100 million Spotify streams.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the release of \u201cOmo Ope\u201d (featuring Olamide)\u00a0and Asake signing to the label in February 2022, YBNL entered its 10th chapter in style.<\/p>\n
