Buhari to attend Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul<\/p>\n

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja for Istanbul, Turkey today to attend the third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkey.<\/p>\n
Malam Garba Shehu, the President\u2019s media aide, confirmed this development in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to the organisers, the theme of the Summit is \u2018\u2018Enhanced Partnership for Common Development and Prosperity\u2019\u2019 and the agenda includes reviewing the cooperation between African countries and Turkey since the last summit in 2014.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit is coming on the heels of President Erdogan\u2019s recent State Visit to Nigeria during which several agreements in the fields of energy, defence industry, mining and hydrocarbons were signed to expand existing bilateral ties.<\/p>\n
\u201dThe Turkish leader had, during the visit to Nigeria, affirmed his commitment to immediately expand the volume of trade between the two countries to five billion dollars and the Nigerian delegation will seize the opportunity of the gathering in Istanbul to enhance cooperation with other partners for more trade and investment opportunities in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201dIt is expected that the Summit would provide guidelines and direction for cooperation with African countries for the next five years,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
President Buhari will be accompanied on the trip by his wife, Aisha, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Defence, rtd Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi; FCT, Mohammed Bello; Rd Health,\u00a0 Osagie Ehanire; Agriculture, Mohammed Abubakar and Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo.<\/p>\n
Others are, the National Security Adviser, rtd Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai.<\/p>\n
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said it is expected that participants will adopt capacity building trainings, including increase of judicial cooperation and relations between judicial institutions, including training cooperation and support, particularly when related to terrorist offenses, as well as security cooperation agreements to increase training cooperation on combating drug-related crimes, and vocational and technical education.<\/p>\n
The summit is expected to adopt the \u201cTurkey-Africa Partnership Joint Action Plan 2021 to 2026\u2033, which contains concrete actions to be implemented jointly by Turkey, the African Union and its Member States.<\/p>\n
The agenda of the third Summit will include reviewing the cooperation between Turkey and African countries since the Second Summit and drawing a framework for the partnership process in the period ahead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
