{"id":48112,"date":"2022-11-05T08:17:55","date_gmt":"2022-11-05T08:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=48112"},"modified":"2022-11-05T08:17:55","modified_gmt":"2022-11-05T08:17:55","slug":"apcs-governorship-candidate-in-enugu-state-promises-to-end-multiple-taxation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/05\/apcs-governorship-candidate-in-enugu-state-promises-to-end-multiple-taxation\/","title":{"rendered":"APC\u2019s governorship candidate in Enugu State promises to end multiple taxation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governorship candidate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/10\/23\/yoruba-world-congress-endorses-tinubu-for-presidency\/\">All Progressives Congress (APC)<\/a> in Enugu State, Chief Uche Nnaji has promised to end multiple taxations if elected.<\/p>\n<p>He said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/04\/i-didnt-harvest-snails-from-sacred-forest-enugu-woman-stripped-naked\/\">Enugu<\/a> on Friday at a town hall meeting with the business community in Enugu State that multiple taxes were impeding businesses in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Nnaji, a businessman said the need to return Enugu State to its glory years as the third-best in the country was one of the factors that motivated him to join the governorship race.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that bad governance over the years had meant that monies misappropriated had brought about underdevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>Nnaji said he had visited 500 churches and more than 400 communities in the state to interact with the electorate to establish their needs since he has no Godfather.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the organised private sector to support him to ensure that multiple taxation became a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that the unemployment rate in Enugu State stood at 53 percent while underemployment stood at about 21 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Nnaji said he would focus on agriculture-based industries, massive structural transformation, and the establishment of a development bank among other novelties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will dedicate 10,000 hectares of land for unemployed youths and give them start-up grants to begin their own businesses. If I emerge as governor of Enugu State, I will bring water scarcity to an end,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nnaji thanked the Enugu Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), organiser of the town hall meeting for the privilege to speak with the Enugu business community.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, President of ECCIMA, Jasper Nduagwuike, said the town hall meeting afforded the APC gubernatorial candidate an opportunity to interact with business owners and with professional groups.<\/p>\n<p>Nduagwuike noted that the engagement would allay the fears of the business community on how the APC governorship candidate would address its concerns if elected.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to Nnaji to ensure a turnaround in the ease of doing business in Enugu State, saying it had not been rosy.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the event, Rev.
