{"id":48476,"date":"2022-11-07T12:45:36","date_gmt":"2022-11-07T12:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=48476"},"modified":"2022-11-07T12:45:36","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T12:45:36","slug":"adb-approves-70m-loan-to-cambodia-for-education-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/07\/adb-approves-70m-loan-to-cambodia-for-education-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"ADB approves $70m loan to Cambodia for education reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #f70d28\"><b>The Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB)<\/b><\/span> has approved a 70-million-U.S. dollar loan to Cambodia.<\/p>\n<p>The loan is to support government efforts to deepen reforms in upper secondary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education across the country, the lender said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Science and Technology Project in Upper Secondary Education will help Cambodia develop high-quality human resources.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially in the STEM field, as the country aspires to transform its economy to a technology-driven and knowledge-based economy, the statement said.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cGiven the significant STEM skills gap, the project will help to strengthen Cambodia\u2019s education system by upgrading its traditional STEM education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo keep up with the growing demand for a highly qualified labour force,\u2019\u2019 said ADB principal education specialist for Southeast Asia Lynnette Perez.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be instrumental for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/08\/18\/cambodian-police-confiscate-18-3-kg-of-illegal-drugs\/\">Cambodia<\/a> <\/strong>to integrate 21st-century skills, knowledge, and competencies into its STEM education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will improve student proficiency in critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration, all of which are needed for a knowledge-based economy,\u2019\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>she added.<\/p>\n<p>The project will put in place standards for quality <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/07\/fg-boosts-world-bank-assisted-adolescent-girls-education-project-with-700m-dollars\/\">education<\/a> <\/strong>for all upper secondary schools, upgrade facilities, and provide essential education technology and STEM equipment in Cambodia, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Among the project\u2019s plans will be to upgrade the facilities of 14 upper <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/01\/school-fees-reintroduced-in-senior-secondary-schools-by-kaduna-govt\/\">secondary<\/a> <\/strong>network schools and 103 general upper secondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>This is by converting three classrooms in each into two science classrooms and one library with equipment, teaching materials, books, furnishing, and needed education technology resources, it said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Manila-based Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 70-million-U.S. dollar loan to Cambodia.
