{"id":48808,"date":"2022-11-09T10:23:13","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T10:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=48808"},"modified":"2022-11-09T10:23:13","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T10:23:13","slug":"ebonyi-residents-motorists-lament-sudden-hike-in-pump-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/09\/ebonyi-residents-motorists-lament-sudden-hike-in-pump-price\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebonyi residents, motorists lament sudden hike in pump price"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some residents of Abakaliki, Ebonyi capital have expressed worry over the sudden upward adjustment in the pump price of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/02\/09\/pms-no-need-for-panic-buying-we-have-20-days-sufficiency-nmdpra\/\"><strong>Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS)<\/strong><\/a> in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In a visit to some filling stations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, the product is sold between N200 and N230 per a litre as against the official pump price of N185.<\/p>\n<p>The situation bites harder in the state as many filling stations continue to hoard the products.<\/p>\n<p>They expressed worry and urged the Federal government to intervene to reduce the suffering of the poor citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Mr James Odoh, a commercial driver, told NAN, that the sudden hike was worrisome, especially now that the Christmas celebration was fast approaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know in this country, once the price of fuel is increased, it affect prices of every other commodities in the market. Though, the price of food items had been on the increase before now but this cost of fuel is causing more difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a driver and it bites harder everyday. You pay through your nose to buy fuel, in the end, you won\u2019t have the gains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not easy to survive this heat but man must work. The prices of transportation are yet to be increased. The Fare to Enugu, Port Harcourt and Abuja are still the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnugu is between N1000 and N1, 200, Port Harcourt, between N4, 500 and N5, 000, while Abuja is between N8, 000 and N15, 000 respectivly depending on the transporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expenses at hand have doubled. You buy food at high cost and you service your vehicle at high cost. The government should come to the aid of the poor masses,\u201d Odoh advised.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Mary Okoro, a housewife, said it was necessary to set up monitoring team and taskforce to checkmate the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Monday Chukwu, a teacher urged the federal government and the Petroleum Products Price Regulatory Agencies to urgently address the rising cost of petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>Chukwu expressed fear that the current cost of fuel would affect transport fares especially during the Yuletide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some residents of Abakaliki, Ebonyi capital have expressed worry over the sudden upward adjustment in the pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) in the state.
