{"id":48810,"date":"2022-11-09T09:34:14","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T09:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=48810"},"modified":"2022-11-09T09:34:14","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T09:34:14","slug":"lasg-commits-n200m-to-fund-indigenous-research-in-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/09\/lasg-commits-n200m-to-fund-indigenous-research-in-health\/","title":{"rendered":"LASG commits N200m to fund indigenous research in health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/21\/amb-abayomi-olonisakin-appointed-as-nigeria-football-supporters-club-patron\/\"><strong>Prof. Akin Abayomi<\/strong><\/a>, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, on Tuesday said the government has set aside N200 million to fund indigenous research in health.<\/p>\n<p>Abayomi made his known in Lagos at the ongoing 2022 Annual International Conference on Health Advances, Innovation and Research (ICHAIR), organised by the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR).<\/p>\n<p>ICHAIR is a meeting for bio-medical professionals and stakeholders within Nigeria and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/11\/09\/sanwo-olu-inaugurates-20-unit-housing-apartments-vocational-centre-in-surulere\/\"><strong>Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu<\/strong><\/a> has given us N200 million and it is for the purpose of funding indigenous local research in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are presently going through the applications submitted so we can shortlist the applicants while the winners for the grant will be announced next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will trigger the process for research, innovations and medical advances in health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor also funded COVID-19 research to the tune of N300 million and this research has resulted in 40 journal articles and were made possible through partnership with various health institutions such as NIMR\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner added that plans were also on to create an intellectual property desk in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working on an intellectual property desk because it is necessary for our researchers to understand how important their intellectual work is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Abayomi urged researchers in the country to carry out research that will proffer solutions to issues that were peculiar to our domain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, on Tuesday said the government has set aside N200 million to fund indigenous research in health.
