{"id":5603,"date":"2021-12-19T14:16:40","date_gmt":"2021-12-19T14:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=5603"},"modified":"2021-12-19T14:16:40","modified_gmt":"2021-12-19T14:16:40","slug":"covid-19-rivers-state-records-188-new-infections-as-ncdc-records-828-on-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/19\/covid-19-rivers-state-records-188-new-infections-as-ncdc-records-828-on-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Rivers state records 188 new infections, as NCDC records 828 on Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rivers State took the lead in the country\u2019s COVID-19 infections as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) logged 828 new infections on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The Rivers state capital, Port Harcourt, a metropolis that is considered the commercial center of the Nigerian oil industry, registered 188 infections out of the 828 declared on Saturday by the agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The NCDC made this known on Sunday via its official website, saying that the 188 infections from Rivers indicated a decrease of 29 infections, from 217, recorded on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Rivers, the third most hit state by the virus in the country, had more cases than Lagos state, the country\u2019s epicenter of the pandemic, with an estimated population of between 17.5 million and 21 million as of 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Lagos state logged 183 cases, a big fall compared to the 906 reported on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The NCDC indicated that the 97 cases reported by Delta state on Saturday aggregated the cases recorded from Dec. 7\u2013 17, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Amongst others states that registered cases were; the FCT (82), Oyo (67), Edo (54), Ekiti (34), Plateau (34), Kano (27), Anambra (22), Kaduna (19), Enugu (12), Ogun (5), and Kwara (4):<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">It stated also that Saturday\u2019s 828<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>infections brought Nigeria\u2019s tally to 223,483, with 211,522 persons treated and discharged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">Saturday\u2019s figure indicated a decrease of 756 infections on Friday\u2019s 1,584 cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The agency added that the country\u2019s active cases across the nation stood at 8,977 as at Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The centre added that no death was recorded on Saturday as the country\u2019s mortality figure still stands at 2,984 as at Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s3\">The NCDC noted that Nigeria had conducted 3,686,403 tests since the virus was announced on Feb. 27, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rivers State took the lead in the country\u2019s COVID-19 infections as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) logged 828 new infections on Saturday.
