{"id":6102,"date":"2021-12-21T07:11:59","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T07:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=6102"},"modified":"2021-12-21T07:11:59","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T07:11:59","slug":"infrastructural-projects-lagos-state-government-signs-n137-3bn-bond-issuance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/21\/infrastructural-projects-lagos-state-government-signs-n137-3bn-bond-issuance\/","title":{"rendered":"Infrastructural Projects: Lagos State Government signs N137.3bn bond issuance"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<p class=\"entry-title card-title\">\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_520812\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-520812\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-520812 jetpack-lazy-image jetpack-lazy-image--handled\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.nannews.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/PIX-0824-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1239\" data-lazy-loaded=\"1\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-520812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Lagos State Government on Monday signed the issuance of N137.3 billion bond, aimed at executing key infrastructural projects in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Lagos State Governor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/10\/stop-bullying-cultism-sanwo-olu-admonishes-students\/\">Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu,<\/a> who spoke at the signing ceremony in Ikeja stated that the conclusion of the process brought to N377.715 billion, the total value of bond issued from the Lagos State N500 billion debt issuance programme.<\/p>\n<p>Sanwo-Olu said this is also the third time a sub-national would issue a long-date Bond (10 years), in the Nigerian domestic debt capital markets, following the debut issuance of a 10-year instrument in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He said that in order to adequately kick-start the funding of the projects, the state government formally commenced the issuance process in April 2021.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, in the last eight months, and with the unwavering support of transaction advisers, the government has been able to achieve this laudable feat, which to some observers looked impossible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe are gathered here for the signing of the necessary documents required by the Securities &amp; Exchange Commission (SEC), to finalise the issuance of Lagos State\u2019s N137.3 billion, 13 per cent 2021\/2031 Fixed Rate Bond Series IV Bond Issuance, under the N500 Billion Fourth Debt Issuance Programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe set out to raise up to N125 billion and closed the Book Build with bids totalling N137.3 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis strong response from the investing community \u2013 to our administration\u2019s debut bond issuance \u2013 is humbling and is indeed a testament to continued investor confidence in the state\u2019s ability to deliver on its infrastructural and socio-economic developmental objectives; and to meet repayment obligations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dNotwithstanding the significantly over-subscribed book, and active participation from a wide array of institutional investors \u2013 including banks, pension fund administrators, asset managers and corporates, Lagos State has maintained its discipline on size and pricing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor said that in line with the state\u2019s vision to build a Greater Lagos, the proceeds of the Bond would be used to finance key infrastructure projects, primarily in roads and healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>He said that these projects included the Lekki Regional Road, Rehabilitation of Ijeododo road and Rehabilitation of the alternative route to Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza.<\/p>\n<p>Sanwo-Olu said that these projects would contribute to a better quality of living for the people, while also creating a more enabling environment for commercial and economic activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThere is no doubt \u2014 and we have seen this from previous interventions \u2014 that the multiplier social and economic effects will more than justify the cost of investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe applaud the Federal Ministry of Finance, PENCOM and Debt Management Office Nigeria, for their support and collaboration. Our appreciation also goes to the Securities &amp; Exchange Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWe equally thank the investing community for their sustained support of Lagos State and our efforts to improve the social and economic welfare of all residents in Lagos.
