{"id":7200,"date":"2021-12-25T15:22:40","date_gmt":"2021-12-25T15:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=7200"},"modified":"2021-12-25T15:22:40","modified_gmt":"2021-12-25T15:22:40","slug":"lagos-pipeline-explosion-will-not-disrupt-supply-of-petroleum-products-nnpc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/25\/lagos-pipeline-explosion-will-not-disrupt-supply-of-petroleum-products-nnpc\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos pipeline explosion will not disrupt supply of petroleum products &#8211; NNPC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/11\/25\/nnpc-gacn-and-the-nasarawa-state-government-sign-a-memorandum-of-understanding-on-gas-supply\/\">Nigerian National Petroleum Company<\/a> (NNPC) Ltd. says Friday\u2019s pipeline fire in Iyana-Odo\/Baruwa axis of Lagos State will not disrupt the supply of petroleum products across the country.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Malam Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, NNPC Ltd., gave the assurance when he visited the scene of the incident.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to Kyari, the fire incident was a result of power line collapse on a section of System 2B pipeline within the area.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The GMD, represented by Mr Isiyaku Abdullahi, Managing Director, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) Ltd., said the visit was to ascertain the extent of the incident.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe want to assure Nigerians that this incident will not affect the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Kyari said NNPC officials were working with the Lagos State Government and other relevant authorities to permanently put off the fire.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that five 330KV Towers supplying power to Akangba\/Ikeja West had on Friday collapsed in the locality.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Coordinator, South West Zonal Office of the National Emergency Management Agency, had confirmed the incident in a statement.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe electricity cable collapse led to sparks and the sparks got to spilled petrol around the area which led to the pipeline gutting fire and a subsequent explosion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe pipeline corridor have been known to have spillage often due to activities of vandals,\u2019\u2019 Farinloye stated.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The incident had resulted in blackouts in some parts of Lagos State.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Eko Electricity Distribution Company said areas under its network of operations affected by the incident include Akangba, Amuwo, Apapa, FESTAC, Orile and Yaba.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Other affected areas are Yaba, Ijesha, LUTH, Tejuosho and environs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe are working with our Transmission Company of Nigeria partners on a swift resolution and will keep you updated on the situation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThank you for your understanding,\u201d EKEDC said in a statement posted on its social media page.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Similarly, Ikeja Electric Plc said areas affected under its network were PTC\/Isolo, Airport\/Isolo, Ajao, Afprint, Aswani, Amukoko, Ijesha, Old Ojo, as well as Jakande and environs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe are currently working with our TCN colleagues to ensure quick resolution and will keep you updated on the situation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThank you for your understanding,\u201d the DisCo said in a statement issued on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. says Friday\u2019s pipeline fire in Iyana-Odo\/Baruwa axis of Lagos State will not disrupt the supply of petroleum products across the country.
