“Their livelihoods are largely reliant on charitable and government organizations’ goodwill donations.”<\/p>\n
“As a result of overlapping vulnerabilities related to economic security and protection, many people find themselves at risk of sexual and gender-based violence in the camps,” she explained.<\/p>\n
Ikwoku condemned all forms of violence against women and girls and urged all states to domesticate the ‘Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP)’ in order to put an end to violence against them.<\/p>\n
Rapists are sentenced to 12 years in prison without the option of a fine under the VAPP Act, according to her.<\/p>\n
According to Ikokwu, if domesticated by states, the law has the potential to reduce the rate of violence against women and girls, particularly in IDP camps.<\/p>\n
“Many women and girls have been coerced into sex for food in many conflict areas and camps as a result of intimidation, harassment, and a lack of food.”<\/p>\n
“This practice is not only inhumane, but it is total violence against women and girls, and it must be stopped with the collaboration of state and non-state actors.”<\/p>\n
Ikokwu emphasized the importance of treating women and girls with respect and dignity as mothers and future mothers in order to build a better and safer society.<\/p>\n
