{"id":8296,"date":"2022-01-05T21:08:24","date_gmt":"2022-01-05T21:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=8296"},"modified":"2022-01-05T21:08:24","modified_gmt":"2022-01-05T21:08:24","slug":"barkindo-hails-incoming-opec-secretary-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/05\/barkindo-hails-incoming-opec-secretary-general\/","title":{"rendered":"Barkindo hails incoming OPEC Secretary General"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<p class=\"entry-title card-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">Mohammad Barkindo, Secretary General, Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) says the organisation will be in\u00a0 capable hands with his successor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/05\/opec-appoints-haitham-al-ghais-of-kuwait-as-its-new-secretary-general\/\">Haitham Al Ghais.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Barkindo made this known in a congratulatory message to Al Ghais, who is currently the Deputy Managing Director, International Marketing, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A copy of the letter dated Jan. 3 was obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said: \u201d I am very pleased to extend to you my warmest congratulations on your recent appointment as OPEC Secretary General-designate, with your tenure effective as of\u00a0 Aug. 1, 2022.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIt is fully deserved and recognition of your extremely positive standing within the OPEC community as a committed, knowledgeable and extremely able technocrat who can lead the Organisation in the years to come.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Barkindo noted that it had been the honour of a lifetime to lead OPEC since August 2016.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to Barkindo,\u00a0 his tenure has helped to bring together the \u2018Declaration of Cooperation\u2019, the \u2018Charter of Cooperation\u2019, and navigate the organisation past the impacts of the industry downturn of 2014-2016.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that the tenure also tackled\u00a0 the massive repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Barkindo said: \u201cWith your appointment, this vital International Organisation for our Member Countries, as well as the global oil market, is in very capable hands.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cFrom my time working collaboratively with you as Kuwait\u2019s OPEC Governor, I know you have a great understanding of the organs and internal workings of the organisation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThis will stand you in good stead and will be a great knowledge platform for when you assume the secretary general\u2019s responsibilities.\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Barkindo said he would be ready to be of any help to Al Ghais as and when necessary\u00a0 just as he was assisted by previous secretaries general of OPEC as well as past and active ministers.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cThere is an English saying, \u2018standing on the shoulders of giants.
