{"id":8314,"date":"2022-01-05T16:00:03","date_gmt":"2022-01-05T16:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=8314"},"modified":"2022-01-05T16:00:03","modified_gmt":"2022-01-05T16:00:03","slug":"nimasa-starts-vessels-digital-manifest-management-at-ports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/05\/nimasa-starts-vessels-digital-manifest-management-at-ports\/","title":{"rendered":"NIMASA starts vessels\u2019 digital manifest management at ports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have started the total digital manifest management regime for all vessels calling at all Nigerian ports.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Director-General (D-G) of the agency,\u00a0Dr Bashir Jamoh revealed this\u00a0in a statement signed by Mr Edward Osagie, Assistant Director Public Relations, NIMASA, in Lagos on Monday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jamoh said that the physical transactions concerning Sailing Certificates and cargo manifest processing are being phased out completely.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He urged the stakeholders to fully embrace the agency\u2019s initiative by visiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/20\/nimasa-reduces-stevedore-rates\/\">NIMASA portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He said that the automation was aimed at reducing human interaction, improving efficiency and blocking revenue leakages.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIn line with the Federal Government\u2019s Executive Order on Ease of Doing Business, we are committed to improving turnaround time of vessels, reduction of human interface in majority of our transactions with our stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis is in our bid to ensure transparency and professionalism that the sector requires to grow.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe have improved our operational relationship with our sister agencies. As we speak, we have made tremendous progress in our determination to convey sailing clearance for vessels to the NPA electronically.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dWe also receive and process manifests electronically.\u00a0This has improved efficiency leading to improvement in the turn-around-time of vessels calling at the nation\u2019s ports,\u201d Jamoh said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He noted that at\u00a0present, the authority had ensured that the process of submitting and processing manifests was reduced from 72 hours to\u00a0 five hours for Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and larger container vessels.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He said that it would only take two hours or less for smaller vessels.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cYou will agree with me that these are marked improvements and it is still work in progress,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The NIMASA D-G noted that the benefits that would be derived from the total digitalisation of all the agency\u2019s processes expected to be completed by 2022 would be enormous not just for the stakeholders, but for the country at large.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jamoh added that it would help to improve balance of trade and commercial shipping activities in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It would be recalled that the Jamoh-led administration had always advocated the automation of the agency\u2019s processes for enhanced and effective delivery of services.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This renewed drive is seen as another stride in the total transformation of the maritime sector for economic benefit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have started the total digital manifest management regime for all vessels calling at all Nigerian ports.
