{"id":8544,"date":"2022-01-07T19:56:17","date_gmt":"2022-01-07T19:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=8544"},"modified":"2022-01-07T19:56:17","modified_gmt":"2022-01-07T19:56:17","slug":"fg-beef-up-security-on-kaduna-abuja-route-with-patrol-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/07\/fg-beef-up-security-on-kaduna-abuja-route-with-patrol-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"FG beef up security on Kaduna-Abuja route with patrol vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Federal Ministry of Transportation, on Thursday, handed over six patrol vehicles with scanners to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/11\/21\/nrc-gets-icrc-approval-on-e-ticketing-for-lagos-ibadan-and-warri-itakpe-railways\/\">Nigerian Railway Corporation<\/a> (NRC) to boost security on Abuja-Kaduna rail line.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Permanent Secretary\u00a0in the ministry,\u00a0Dr Magdalene Ajani,\u00a0while handing over the vehicles, said it would aid movements on the route, especially in times of emergency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dThe ministry decided to procure these vehicles to support NRC and the police working on that route\u00a0to be able to effectively police the axis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dIt will further support the corporation on the security architecture of Idu -Abuja rail track.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dThe security apparatus we have for most of the rail track have a number of components.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dWe have the local people who are patrolling. We also have the NSCDC personnel,\u00a0the police corps of NRC. We have locations where stations are and where we need the security men to be able to move from one location to the other.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dThis is in addition to the fact that we are also looking at surveillance apparatus and fibre optic equipment. So for movement of security\u00a0personnel, we need these vehicles,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ajani said that in case of emergency calls,\u00a0the security personnel should\u00a0be able to move from one point to the other. This is part of their responsibilities to keep the place safe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She noted that the vehicles passed through proper procurement process before being handed to the corporation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On the sensors being planned to be installed on the route, the permanent secretary explained that they were still in the procurement stage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">She said: \u201dWe have gotten approval from NITDA. So, when the procurement process is concluded, they will be installed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Receiving the vehicles, Chairman of NRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Alhassan, said that the development was a wake-up call on other institutions of government to support the\u00a0corporation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dAt NRC,\u00a0we cannot do it alone. We need the support of other institutions of government. Our operations are more or less social security. Without this, most people will not be able to travel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dWhen we had that unfortunate incident and we could not run for two days, many people could not travel;\u00a0they preferred to stay where they were until the trains were back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dSo, the ministry has done very well and we really appreciate it.\u00a0It is an indication that we are not alone and that we are being supported,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Alhassan said that the vehicles and scanners would be deployed as backup to whatever the corporation needed to do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dWe cannot have security people sitting down in one place. They need to be mobile. We will put the vehicles in the various security stations so that we can do necessary monitoring and patrol.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201dThe scanners will also provide additional security so that we will ensure that our passengers are safe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Also speaking, Managing Director of NRS, Mr Fidet Okhiria, said that the vehicles would go a long way in assisting the corporation in its security arrangement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He commended the ministry for the gesture, adding: \u201cit shows that we are rising up to the challenges we are facing in terms of security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Federal Ministry of Transportation, on Thursday, handed over six patrol vehicles with scanners to Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to boost security on Abuja-Kaduna rail line.
