{"id":9342,"date":"2022-01-25T16:23:48","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T16:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/?p=9342"},"modified":"2022-01-25T16:23:48","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T16:23:48","slug":"man-28-faces-child-stealing-charge-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2022\/01\/25\/man-28-faces-child-stealing-charge-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"Man, 28, faces child stealing charge in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 28-year-old man, Micheal Adeoye, who allegedly stole a two-year-old girl from her mother\u2019s shop was, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates\u2019 Court in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Adeoye, whose address was not provided, is a facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and child stealing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 5 at Kayode Arikawe Street, Ikosi-Ketu area of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Perezi said that the defendant was caught with the girl, trying to board a bus out of the area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was apprehended by some neighbours and handed over to the police,\u201d he further told the court.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the offences contravene Sections 277 and 411 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/broadnews\/2021\/12\/26\/lawyers-tasked-to-prioritise-legal-research-to-ensure-effective-service-delivery\/\">Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 277 provides 14 years imprisonment for child stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate O.M.
