Chocolate City Announces Abuchi Peter Ugwu As New CEO

Nigerian-owned Africa’s leading record label, Chocolate City Music, has tapped Abuchi Peter Ugwu as its new chief.

Chocolate City said Mr Ugwu’s new position at the music company is an exciting step forward in the firm’s widely acclaimed journey in the entertainment industry.

Speaking on Ugwu’s appointment, Audu Maikori, the co-founder of the record label said, “As one of the key pioneers of what is now known as the Afrobeat music, Chocolate City Music and its partners are poised to re-create a shift in how the music business is carried on for the mutual benefit and profit of both the artists and the labels–We believe Mr Ugwu is the right person to take the company to the next logical iteration”.

Paul Okeugo who is also a co-founder at the firm added, “For the past 15 years, Chocolate City has set the standard on what is achievable both artistically and business-wise in the country. We have full confidence Mr Ugwu will keep the tradition going”.

Veteran rapper MI Abaga shared his excitement, saying, “Mr Abuchi knows the music industry inside and out and I’m excited to see the amazing things he’s going to do”.

Ugwu commented on his position at the company, he confessed his love for the firm and stated that “Chocolate City Music is dear to me; it has helped shape who I am today. I’m excited to do the same in this position for others through initiatives that promote progress, collaboration and drive value for artists”.

Mr Ugwu is a skilled executive who has worked in different capacities in the music industry for over ten years. He was also the Head of Business Development for Chocolate City Music in 2015.
